What a good question.
Yes, the God that Christians worship (I assume that's the one you're asking about) isthought to by them to be the creator of everything, the source of all things.
Personally, I believe the first responder is incorrect in his understanding of Isaiah 45:7. "I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the Lord, do all these things." -- You have to understand the context of Isaiah's writing to understand the meaning of the text. I think everyone on here would agree that pulling verses out randomly from the Bible, or any other religious text, in order to support your hypothesis is dangerous. In the text above, Isaiah is known to be speaking to the prevading rulers - the Persians. They believed in duality - two gods, one good and one bad - a kind of yin/yang. Isaiah uses his text to emphasize that God in one - there are no other gods, and that he is the sole creator. God has no opposite.
Most people feel that evil is simply the corruption of good - in other words, it doesn't exist in and of itself, but only when someone or something goes against what is good. Since God is, by definition, good and perfect, you could extrapolate that to mean that evil is the corruption of God's will and law - i.e. going against God.
This is exemplified by Satan - an angel, beloved by God, who chose to disobey him. Satan is not the creator of evil, just the prime example of it.

No, evil was created by God, but, when we create something and it does not do our bidding or follow our intent for it, it does not make us at fault.
Satan existed along with evil prior to our creation. It is not Gods fault that we allowed the introduction of evil into this world, it was there, we were told not to disobey. We disobeyed anyway, and we get evil in the world that was created to exist without the evil.
God created all things, that is an absolute right from the bible. The bible also states that we were created without evil, until our disobedience. The fault still lies with us, no matter how we would like to find a way to justify that it was someone or something elses fault.

Correct, yet incorrect in the same breath. God created Satan as the most beautiful angel ever. He also created Satan extremely wise. Unfortunately, Satan took pride in his beauty and wisdom and said that he would make his throne above the most High (meaning God). Because of Satan's rebellion against his Creator, God cast him out of heaven. His ultimate punishment will be in the Lake of Eternal Fire. Read Revelations to find out information. Then read the gospel of John to find out how you can get saved.

God is the created of all things including Satan, but like many ppl, Satan wanted all of gods power so he turned evil. So God banished him to the bottom of the earth-hell- leaving Satan to cast an evil shadow upon the world. God gave the angels free will, like he did us, and w/ that free will ppl choose to do evil things. Why are ppl so quick to blame God when something goes wrong, but forget to thank him for the daily things he does for us? Such as waking you and your family/friends up every day, getting a raise, food/shelter etc.

Evil is the act of disobedience to God's laws. Since you are free to make your own choices, then you become responsible for the ones you make in opposition to God's will. So, no...your choices are your own fault, just as Satan is responsible for his decision to oppose God.
By the way chippy108 you mis quoted your scripture...Its "I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster, I the Lord do all these things." Try quoting it as its written, not as you interpret it.

The most common beliefs is that God created "ex nihilo" , which means "from nothing". The concept is that no physical or material substance existed prior to the act of creation. The universe was not made out of anything that already existed in material form. Otherwise you would have to continue to go further back into history to find that origin of that substance, and the act of creation would no longer be "the beginning". Another name for this concept is "First Cause". That God is what "caused" everything else, and that nothing existed (except himself) before he began the act of creation. So whatever he made the universe from, it had to be "nothing". Now, the first substance that God made may not be the physical universe that we know today. The Bible says that his first creation was that of "light". This could imply that he made energy, cosmic strings, etc prior to the creation of the physical universe. And that the heavens and the earth were formed from those through a "big bang" or other such event. But as the Bible is not intended to be a text book on HOW the universe was formed, but a thesis on WHO formed the universe, it does not go into a lot of scientific explanations. The Bible does tell us that "the worlds were formed by the word of God". And in Genesis everything is created by God speaking. It is showing that everything came directly from the will, power and desire of God. He wanted it so he simply ordered it into existence, He did not have to use anything except himself to form them. But again, that is focused on the WHO and not the HOW of creation. So it does not exclude that God used the laws of physic and science that we are discovering today to do his creating. So what the Bible teaches is that heavens and earth came directly from the will and power of God, and required nothing except "Him" to come into existence.

God gave us free will. He did not create evil, he allowed it, since he gave us free will.
We must be careful not to blame God for the works of the evil one.
Lucifer started the mess, wanting to sit on the mercy seat. He is still trying.....but I read the end of God's word.

Evil does not exist; it is neither person, place, nor thing. It is the uncreated, causeless "result" of our turning from God, to make a world separate from "Him". What God created can only be holy. God cannot create what cannot exist; and only God exists.
Nothing unreal exists.

evil is the absence of God, the same way as darkness is merely an absence of light. when the light comes in, there is no struggle, the light always overtakes the darkness. when God enters, there is no evil as God always overrides evil. God does not impose His will on humans, therefore humans are capable of evil

If God created evil then he did so indirectly. God created Lucifer who later became the devil. (He was originally an angel.) Technically, anything that is contrary to God & God's will is considered to by evil by the church.
