It usually doesn't. It's inflammation, so it's certainly possible. but the nerve involved is usually deep and under a lot of bone, so swelling is not usually one of the symptoms.

I had some swelling before I had the surgery.
could also depend on how bad it is.

No, it does not. If your hand is swollen, it could be a sprain, strain, fracture, tendonitis, circulatory problem, or something else. Carpal tunnel is from pressure on the nerve.
