The system is an emachine and it is running WinXP professional. The error message that i keep getting when i boot up is unbootable disk mount. Is there hope!

You know, computers are quirky..... try shutting down - power down (pull out the cord to the power or turn off your power strip) and let it sit for a while. I've had the error and doing that seemed to clear it out, however, if you have the XP pro disk, you can always boot with that. You may have to reinstall windows or have the CD correct the error (you'll probably lose a lot of information but at least you'd have a working computer).

Use WinXP install disk to try to recover it or a Ubuntu or Kubuntu LIVE CD to write a Master Boot Record
