......get rid of....well....suicidal thoughts? I've tried being strong, hoping everything will get better but they only seem to get worse. I'm at my lowest ebb right now and if everything goes on like this....i might have to say ta ta to this cruel world. I know everyone encounters problems here and there, but mine don't end, everything just goes wrong. What do i do?

That is both tough and yet simple.

My pdoc taught me so many useful methods for jumping over difficult puddles while living with my mental illness. I'll start with depression which is usually inter-twined with thoughts of suicide, and that is keep busy, busy. He said idle minds lead to disaster, and by that he meant get out of the house at least once per day, even riding the bus is getting you out. Also, it may seem mundane, but read, listen to your fav music. Next, don't rumiate about the past, as you can't change it and in the end....it destroys. That was and still is a biggie for me. Letting go of hurtful years isn't easy.

Get help immediately if you are at your wits end, and close to the breaking point. Call a crisis line, or have someone bring you to the ER. If you have a pdoc or even a family doctor, contact them immediately. Do not proceed and carry out wishes, we want you alive and safe. Don't say goodbye.

Take care.

OK me. I'll tell you how I get rid of them.
I have kids so even as hard as I fight it, I have to, and it's so hard sometimes. I know I have been through it many times and been fine afterward. I come out ok everytime. It is absolutely something that is happening in your mind, and will go away. You might even wonder, or not understand the severity of it after it passes, and ask yourself why or how you could even have thought that. Especially when things change, and get better.

Also I cannot express how much listening to Caroline Myss, and Wayne Dyer on www.hayhouse.com has helped me. I download the podcasts to my ipod, or you can listen while your online. It is probably more help than anyone I know can help me, it's really uplifting. Not religious or anything like that.

Then sometimes I cry it out. I sleep it off. It sounds like such a little thing, but I get up and walk later in the day around the block with my dog, or alone. Thats helps a little.

Lastly.... I go buy a coffee, and clean up my house, windows, floors, etc. I literally wash the negativity off from around my atmosphere. Then I open all my windows, and burn some sage, and I walk through my whole house and ask all the negativity to leave my home and never come back, I also re arrange my furnature sometimes for a change....

OK I might have a screw loose but I do what I have to do. I have been so depressed before I would go to any extremem for that not to happen. It does always come back, but it also always gets better too.

Express them. Let them out...not by going through with it, but by writing about it, doing some artwork, write some songs, yell at the world, or cry it out. Once it's out of your head and on paper or in the air or somewhere else, it will hold less power over you. Another thing I have done when I felt overwhelmed is go to a dollar store, buy a bunch of cheap plates and glasses, use a Sharpie and write on the dishes whatever is bugging you or making you mad or sad, and then go up into the mountains or some remote area and smash the bee-gee-ziz out of them. (Yes, people, I know this is littering, but it's a relatively lesser evil than suicide).

You sound like you already know this, but get some help if you haven't already - a counselor, perhaps. Here's a hotline too, 24 hours, if you need better words than we can give you here.

800-273-TALK

It's difficult I know, I've been there. Try and remember a time when you were happy unexpectedly and know that it can happen again. Talk to someone, a friend, a doctor, someone online. Write down how you are feeling, not only when you feel bad but when you feel better too. That way you can remind yourself of the good times, and that you can get through the bad. Try distraction activities, do anything but don't ever give in to suicide. No matter what life deals you know that you can be the best person you can. Take care. Cx

Only listen to Rocky W, rusty bone and Ipcisitel(sorry spelling) answers. A dr.'s help and maybe meds are what is needed. If you are depressed, almost nothing will bring you out of it. You cannot just, "snap out of it." If you are suicidal thinking call 911. Depression happens to many people. I have had clinical depression for several years, but I take meds, so technically I am not depressed right now, but that was my diagnosis. I will have to take them all my life. It is a chemical imbalance in my brain.

If you are having these thoughts, you need to seek help immediately. It only takes a split second for you to decide to act on them and then it's too late. Call your doctor, the police, anyone who can get you immediate help.

thinking positive or talking to someone you can trust. Maybe going to a professional doctor may help and get some help would be a good idea too.

If you feel that way now call a suicide hotline immediately! If you aren't you do need to see a professional. If you don't know of a good therapist talk to your family doctor and have him/her recommend one for you. Please don't put this off. Good luck.
