My step dad bought a car for me and I have been paying it off $150 a month for almost a year IN CASH and I have gotten no receipts. Now, I want to move out and everything is coming together why my name isnt on the title and why he wanted me to pay cash. I have no proof its my car. Any ideas or advice.

If your step dad wants to screw you over on this deal, he is certainly in a position to do so as you have nothing in writing. Even if you tried to pursue this through legal channels he can always say he was only renting the car to you, not selling it. I can't comment on why he would want to renege on the deal and, if he does, he would be a despicable character in my opinion.

I suggest you give him a choice - either sign the title over to you or refund all the money you have given him for the car. At least you could try that (nothing ventured, nothing gained). If he refuses and won't part with the car, either I think you are going to be out of luck. Sorry!

It sounds like your dad has you over a barrel so to speak. Maybe he will do the honorable thing a give you the title when the car is payed for.

Not much you can do here except be nice to your step dad and get him to transfer the title. And next time, get receipts. OR, if he lets you drive the car without any problem, just leave it in his name.

If your name isn't on the title, then you're out of luck. You cant sell that car unless you get the title in your name. To do that, your step-dad has to sign off on it, so unless you can convince him to, then you can't do anything about it.

get the name switched
if you over eighteen have written documentation that you "bought" the car from him or you can just keep your self on the insurance and let him have the title

maybe the reason the car is in his name is that he and your mom don't want to pay 2500.00 a year for insurance? Talk to him and find out whats going on?

If your name isn't on the title, it isn't your vehicle. If you have no proof that you have made any payments, you are out of luck. Sorry, but that's the way it is.

If it's paid off, have him sign over the title to you, and take it to the DMV to have it put in your name.

Problem solved.
