There are several small lymph nodes all around the underside of the chin, as well as salivary glands, and the drainage system for your inner ears, all of which can become blocked or irritated by things, or infected. All of them, or any one of them could react in the manner you describe, so it's really hard to say with any accuracy what is going on with you without being able to see or feel the area giving you trouble. The ENT is the professional you need to see, and should be able to determine exactly what is giving you the problem. Medicine is as much art as it is science, and really does depend on the touch, sight and experience of the doctor, as much as it does the results of laboratory tests. I'm sorry I can't be of more help than this, but diagnosis is a lot more involved than just matching a list of symptoms to a list of diseases or injuries. The only thing I can tell you is that in all likelyhood it isn't anything really serious or life-threatening, the major things in the area are the vocal cords and the thyroid/parathyroid. You don't seem to be describing a problem that they would be having, although I can't eliminate one there completely. Even so, the disorders which could cause problems with them are all treatable. My advice would be to wait and see what the ENT has to say, and try not to be overly concerned in the waiting time. Good luck, and I hope you get the problem solved.

A year, Honey if it's been going on this long? go see your dentist first. He'll probably take X-Rays. You didn't say where, under your jaw. I'm assuming you mean "under your jaw" as in mouth? You have a lot of lymph nodules there, one or two may becoming infected from anything, even an abscessed tooth.Your dentist may suggest seeing the doctor. Together one of them should be able to help you, good luck.

could be a sinus, or a stone in a salivary gland, or an infected or calcified lymph node, or some remains from an infected tooth. or some other thing. definetly get the ENT consultation, if necessary an X-ray or tomography and/or biopsy.

i have had the experience lately myself. the doctor pissed me off. i think a soft tissue scan would show whats going on.

i tried to tell my doctor it was not IN my throat, but outside my throat. it was not my salivary gland because when that acts up the symptoms are comepletly different.

let me know what the ent doc says. i'm curious.
