Eat foods that boost your metabolism like peppers, cut back on fats ( I try to stay at 20 grams or less total fat per day and 0-3 grams saturated fat per day), reduce caloric intake (I like to keep mine at 1000 to 1200 per day) especially alcohol. Alcohol has soooo many empty calories. Then, their are even more calories if you mix it with something, like coke, juice, etc.
Make sure you eat breakfast. Many of us skip breakfast because we are either too busy or just not hungry yet. Breakfast is very important in dieting. If you starve your body all day or for very long periods ( say...skip lunch, for instance) you will be famished by dinnertime and eat way too much. You need to spread your calories out throughout the day. It's better for burning them off and for energy levels. Also, I know you said besides exercise, but muscle mass is really the best for burning fat and calories. Along with a cardio workout, light weight (5-10 pounds) training is great for putting on muscle. Try Minna Lessig's Emergency 6 week Workout. It has both cardio and toning in it. Hope this helps

Cut back on food consumption, fats, carbs. Eat a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, lean meat (restrict intake of red meat), fish, poultry, whole grains only. No white bread, sweets or junk food. Drink a glass of water (at least 8 oz) before a meal. Cut out sodas, drink water or fruit juices. You MUST have at least 30 min. of aerobic exercise 3 times a week or more. Walking is good. This is the ONLY healthy way to lose it and not gain it back. You have to include exercise. After about 1-2 weeks of this regimen, it will become just a daily routine. Also, once you get carbs out of your system, you won't crave them any longer. Forget about fad diets, people usually gain it back. Oh, yeah, you don't want to gorge on these good foods. Portion control is needed so your stomach will shrink. A portion is the size of your fist for each food.

Well, I don't know if you can lose weight without exercising. But exercising can be as little as taking a walk everyday, or working out to a exercise tape in your living room. You should also eat right, drink lots of water, and get enough sleep.

watch what you are eating, instead of three big meals a day cut them down and have say 4-6 small meals, more often, so you don't have a big gap between meals, you won't want to snack because you already feel full.drink a full glass of water before each "meal" which will fill you up some before you eat, make the meals with fruits and veg and try and cut out greasy and fat stuff. Did you know that alot of the time when we go to snack and think we are hungry we are actually thirsty?. when i want to snack i have a glass of water first.

The bottom line is that it takes about 1200 calories a day to just live. The more calories you burn - the calories you take in equals either weight gain or weight loss. Thousand calories a day plus excersize will cause you to lose weight. Be careful of drinking too much water, it can lead to water intoxication and be fatal.

Diet and exercise are great. Reducing stress supposedly helps reduce cortisol, the stress chemical that really tacks it on.
But a friend of mine who had weight problems for years had tried diet and exercise and all that. It took a personal trainer to show her how, and one year and fifty pounds later she's glowing! (at 5'10", mind you). Her metabloism went from that of an 80-yr-old to that of a 50-yr-old, and she was only 26!
Now, if you don't have the resources, I understand. But seriously, their knowledge is power!

I have heard the best way is to drink lots of water. This fills you up and maybe do some walking and see if this is something that might help you or least get you started on the right path you want

Eat less. The only ways of losing weight are to increase the amount of exercise you get or to decrease the amount of food that you eat.
