Muts. Or any dog on "death row" make great pets. Why pay a breeder to make more animals, when we put down 17 million unwanted ones last year.... pretty irresponsible, if you ask me!

It amazing the variety of answers you get for a question like this. One person likes Schnauzers, another person wouldn't have anything other than a Shetland Sheepdog. I love Standard Poodles. Each person or family will have their own favorite breed or mix, and for different reasons.
So here's my story. I participated in dog obedience with a rescue Golden Retriever for about three years. After she passed away, I decided I wanted a puppy to train. After researching all the AKC breeds, I learned that Border Collies and Standard Poodles were the smartest breeds (in the area of obedience training). I choses Standard poodle over Border Collie because I wanted a dog that did not shed. My Standard Poodle “puppy” is now a beautiful three-year-old. After getting her, I learned that Standard Poodles are not only smart, but also friendly, calm, funny, and can be groomed in an endless variety of styles! My girl looks like a shaggy sheepdog some months, a glamor queen on others, and a curly-coated retriever when I'm feeling lazy. Yes, I have fallen in love with the Standard Poodle breed, and you can probably guess what my next dog will be :-).

I prefer mix breed dogs. They are healthier. AKC regitered dogs arent better because they cost more. As a matter of fact they tend to have more problems because of overbreeding.
