Apply Vasoline or the protective gel (which is usually the same as Vaseline) that comes in the relaxer box to your hairline, ears, and neck. Cream of Nature, Optimum, and Dark-N-Lovely are good box perms to use if you're going to be a kitchentician...:-). But make sure to put some kind of protection on your previously relaxed hairstrands also, put your conditioner that you normally use after you wash your hair (not anything like Cholesterol Conditioner) on your hairstrands. This will act as a border and protect your hair from becoming over-processed. Believe me, your relaxer is still going to do it's thing in straightening your hair. The best way for your scalp not to burn is 1) do not brush or comb your scalp before or during a perm 2) do not scratch your scalp before you get a perm and 3) do not put a perm in your hair until at least 72 hrs. after you have washed your hair. But still the best way, is to let your beautician do your perm. Last longer, safest, healthiest, and easier. Good luck...!!!!!!

If you are going to the salon to get it done, tell your stylist....there is a cream that looks white that is used for this, and they SHOULD have it.
As for the perm for straightening...maybe i'm not understanding the question, but if you do want a perm, why would you want to straighten it out???
Anyway, if you do, just know that perm solution will dry it out, and you never get true results. You're better off to grow it all out naturally

The best kit for your perm would be the one your hair stylist thinks is best for your skin type. You have to live with the results. Do you really want to take the chance?
