I believe the Spanish word for 'penalty' (as in Football)is 'penalty', as in English.
But what is the plural.(penalties).
I'd be most grateful for any help.

specifically in football (and remember this changes from one spanish-speaking country to another), radio-commentators will say "penalty" and simply add the number ahead of it, so yes, it stays the same.
when you talk about other contexts (somebody been landed a penalty for doing something they shouldn't) then you can have a multitude of options: penalidad (penalidades if in plural), penal (es), multa (s) to the more lame ones like "objecion (es)". hope this helps if it doesn't confuse you more. first thing first, check out the specific area of spanish you need translating to (Latin America - which country as they vary greatly - or Spain).

Penalty in spanish is "penalidad". Plurals are most the same in Spanish as in English, you just add 's' when ends in vocals and 'es' when ends in consonants. So "penalidad" in plural is "penalidades".

The football penalty in Castillian Spanish is 'penal' (pronounced pay-nal) and the plural is penales. Sometimes 'penalti' is said (pay-nal-tee).

Penalty, as in football, is "falta" in Spanish. But we do say penalty in Spain because we are all algo-ized (not sure how would u say that)
