I am interested in starting up a paranormal investigations group where I live, but I am wondering two things.

What things would I need to get started, and how would I go about arranging an investigation?

My best advice would be to get in contact with a university-sponsored paranormal group and ask them for guidance.

There are books like Trent Brandon's the Ghost Hunter's Bible is a good source of information.Troy Taylor's A ghost Hunter's guide book tells a little, but I found it lacking an a lot of areas. Some people use only his books and method though. There are other books about paranormal investigations and if you email me privetly I will look all mine up and give you the title and author.

The best website in my opinion is ghostweb.com the official web site for the International Ghost Hunter's Society. They have links to many good articles that will get you well on the way to paranormal investigations. They also offer for a fee a home study course and certification. Depends on what you want exactly, but their website has enough information to get you started and it is free.

The books I mentioned and other books I have give some actual examples of forms and questions to ask and you have permission to copy them and use them as is or as a guide to write your own.

I personally like the IHGS above because they are more in line with my personal experience and in my opinion are better. However Troy Taylor also has a website and offers certification I beleive his website is Prarieghosts.com, if that is not it just search for American ghost society.

The AGS differs from the IGHS and it just depends on your preference and experience. Ilike I said I prefer the IGHS, but many people like Troy Taylor's AGS.

You don't really have to pay for a course and get certified unless you want to go with that particular teaching and move within those circles. The books I have will give you the information you need and the free articles on the IGHS will also.

The one thing all agree on is there are no experts in this field. Hope this helps.

First you need to read everything you can get your hands on. Both for and against the existance of the self after death.

I wouldn't do it without sound faith. I've known too many people who've been hurt because they got into situations where they thought they were dealing with a ghost but were actually dealing with the demonic.

Then get some equipment. Digital recorder for EVP's. Polaroid camera for photos. Get some friends together whom you trust. Begin visiting places and see what you can see.

You have to build up a serious list "private" investigations before anyone takes you seriously.

You will need to be good at doing research so you can check historical records and possibly confirm your findings.

Some of my friends are ghost hunters. Things you will need are obviously the property owners permission to go ghost hunting. You will want a good camera and an EMF detector. EMF detectors detect electromagnetic disturbances which are linked to ghosts or paranormal activity. You will also want a hand held thermometer to detect cold spots which are also associated with ghosts.

It depends whether you take a more scientific approach of mystical approach. I dont suggest getting involved with mediums and spiritualists because God has told us those crafts are wicked. I would go the scientific route!

Thats pretty cool because the belief in ghosts is actually what helped spur me to believe in God!
