Geez, call your dentist and ask if they can get you in sooner. Ouch! Poor thing. Good Luck.

You should take 4 ibuprophen (Advil) every four hours until your appt. It is an anti-inflamitory and will help with any swelling in your gums and also the pain. Tylenol isn't strong enough. 4 Advil is the same amount of pain medicine as pain killers without the narcotics. I worked in a dentist office and we had our patients do this all the time. The dentist should have given you some antibiotics to kill the infection before a root canal. You can't work on an infected tooth. It won't get numb. If he didn't you might want to call the office and ask for an antibiotic and pain pills.

Ibuprofen has always worked best for tooth pain for me, but you don't want to take too much, too often. How long before you have insurance? A lot of dentists will make payment arrangements with you, if you have a means to pay. Are you working at all? Could your parents or family help you? Sorry, I know how miserable tooth pain can be.

"LIQUID ORAL GEL" is the only thing that saved me. That stopped the throbbing within 5 mins. I kept some in my car, in my desk at work, on my night stand at home, in my purse.

Be careful before going in. If your already taking medication, Tylenol, Pain Pills, Antibiotics, anything, tell your dentist before hand. Because he will be giving you novacaine. And you never know what may happen with the combo of the two.
Good Luck!

Been there many times. The tooth hurts because it is infected. You need to rinse your mouth with an antiseptic. Then try biting on a tea bag. If you have a drup store close by, get some Red Cross toothache drops. Or you can get some Orajel and put it on the bad tooth with a Q-tip.

Dude, you got an infection in your tooth. You need penicillen. I feel your pain - I went through that a year ago... Its so much pain.. I would tell you to go to the emergency room and get a prescript for penicillen. After 12 hours on penicillen the pain will be gone. It takes 12 hours for it to kick in..

I am not sure if it is available in your area but Dr. Sheffields toothache medicine is pretty good and I have also broken a pain pill such as lortab and laid it directly on the tooth and let it desolve--tastes yucky but really works--good luck

You know, I have been having tooth throbbing pain as well, so thanks to the Asker for this question and Thank you so much for all the Answers. Numbing is what I need, not a pain killer.

I use 800 mg of ibroprofen and it works for me! Had a tooth pulled by an idiot dentist and lived on it for 2 weeks. Maybe it will work for you too.

Get topical anesthetic like Anbesol. Placing whole cloves in the area of the tooth will also have a numbing effect.

Gargle with warm salt water- the salt helps promote healing of the gums, which are probably irritated around that tooth. Try it, it really works. Warm water, not too hot.
