Hi everyone. I just want to thank those of you that helped me with my quwarion about my kitten's loose stool. I want you all to know that she is eating great now, and drinking water, and her stools have stiffened up.
My next question is: should i leave (dry) food out for her 24/7? or should i just feed her x times a day?
Thanks!
LMK

Thanks all, most ppl that i've talked to leave food out 24/7. I have it elevated, so my lil dog can't get to it, but she has no prob getting to it.
Keep writing!!

I worked at a vet clinic and most the cats that came in were overweight. They were that way because their owners had food left out 24/7. I would recommend having set feeding times. The cat food bag will state how much of the food the cat needs to get its daily nutrional needs. Feed half first thing in am and half in evening. Make sure you have plenty of water available throughout the day.

That's the worst thing you could do.
Free feeding can very easily lead to obesity, and that is something you do NOT want to deal with! Trust me on that one.
Set a daily amount for your kitty. Divide that into 2 or more feedings per day. If you find that a good amount is being left behind, reduce the amount you're feeding.
Free-feeding is how one of my cats swelled to an epic 25 pounds. My other cat is a slim goody who was able to self-regulate, but you don't know how your kitten will react. So don't even start, or you'll have a hard time stopping.

No problem leaving a bowl of dry food out all day, as long as it doesn't attract competition (dogs, raccoons, etc.). I used to do that for my outdoor cats, but the food kept attracting ants. The cat will eat when it's hungry, so it most likely won't overeat, but you will also be less likely to know how often or what times your cat is showing up to eat.

Assuming you have no other animals (such as a dog or wild animals) with access to the food, I'd definitely leave it out 24/7. Cats are individual in their eating preferences, and a young cat needs plenty of food. Also be sure to have fresh water out with dry food at all times.

I leave food out for my cats 24/7. Dogs have set meal times. Unless, you notice your cat's food "disappearing" more than a couple times a day, she's probably eating fine. We have 2 cats and I only fill their bowls once a day and there is still food in it at night.

Hey! I personaly just make sure my cat has food when I have nothing better to do, then if she meows and goes to the empty food bowl I know she is ready for some food. And every once and a while I give her some fancy feast to make her feel loved! That seems to work well with my cat, but every cat is different. And the disision is actualy up to you and you cat(but mostly you). But choose carefully because if you chose one, and later on you find it doesn't work acording to your shedule it will be hard for your cat to ajust to the new method of feeding. I find my method to be best but thats just my opinoin. Good luck!
~Hope this helps! =^..^=

If she's just a kitten then you can leave it out free choice. But once she is spayed (6mos) then you should limit it to twice a day and feed by the recommended amount on the bag. Get her weight from the vet, or you get on a bathroom scale and see how much you weight. Then pick her up and figure the difference and that's how much she weights :)

I leave my cats some dry out all the time and split a can up for them every few days and mine are all perfectly health. Just make sure she doesn't devour it all at once and then wants more, mine come and eat a little and then walk away.

I'd say that's your choice. If I was able to leave dry food out for my cat I would. Unfortunately my dog would just love that!
If she doesn't have any problems with "weight" and you don't have to worry about another pet helping themselves to her food I see nothing wrong with it.
Do whatever works for you.
