ok..... my dog got "got" on October 8th, I didn't even know she was in heat...(she doesn't bleed at all)

Her stomach doesn't really look any different, but when i lay her on her back and feel, it is really hard, and when i feel when she is standing she lets me feel for a min, and then nips at me and runs away......

can anyone tell me what i should watch for, I can't find any really good websites out there to tell me, just what to watch for in labor.

I know it takes approx 63 days, abut when will I know for sure, and when should I take her to the vet?

oh and she is a Mini American Eskimo about 10 pounds and she is 4 years old and healthy....

PLEASE don't lecture me about breeding my dog, I DIDN'T.... These things do happen... I just want some FRIENDLY advice.... Thanks : )

You probably can't tell if your pet is pregnant until around 6 wks. from the time she was breed. If you take her to vet there is test they can do,but she must be about 2 wks. into her pregnancy.Pups will be born anywhere around 56 to 63 days from time of breeding, but most people will tell you on here 59 to 63 days.I've had dogs deliver at 56 days, but was carrying a big litter. After she gets 6 wks. into her pregnancy, stand her on all four legs, feel her tummy underneath close to her back legs.If you feel any hard little balls about the size of a tennis ball, she is most likely pregnant. It will be after this time that you will probably notice her getting bigger in tummy area.

The vet can xray or ultrasound her and see if she's pregnant and if she is how many puppies there are. If you know what kind of dog it was that bred her be careful with small b*tches giving birth to mixes with bigger dogs. The puppies might not fit through her pelvic canal and she and the pups could die :( So quick visit to the vet and a quick xray should give you the quickest answer. Otherwise by the time she's letting milk down the pups will be born within 24 hours and that won't be for a bit longer. Good luck. Also if you get a C-section (if the pups are too big to come out normally) you can have her spayed at the sametime so she doesn't have to go under anesthesia twice. Good luck :)

friendly advice:

U still have abt a week in which to spay Ur dog - and i strongly support this option.

call the vet, get a full-panel blood profile to check her liver and kidney function and be sure she has no infections, etc (the WBC will tell much, as will enzyme-levels).

then save $$ on the desex surgery by finding a low-cost or no-cost surgery from a shelter, rescue or other subsidized vet source.

it will be cheaper to get her spayed now, than to rear the litter - and the chance of THOSE pups growing up to make yet-more unwanted or unplanned pups is astronomical.

have U also considered the possible cost if ur dog dies drg whelping? or needs an emergency C-section?

even a small dog under 20# can run a $1,000 vet bill for an emergency C-sxn... and the alternative is to possibly lose both dam and litter.

act ASAP if U want to prevent this litter - and U can easily find info on preg in dogs - ASK your VET, and pay them for an exam on Ur bred-dog. She at the very least, deserves that minimum!

BTW, there's a good chance she may have been exposed to Brucellosis - another thing to ask the vet about. Make that appt, and get her care -before- she's too far in whelp for a safe desex.

every estrus is an opportunity for a life=threatening pyometra, as well as serious problem-behavior, including territorial guarding, object-guarding, food- and other resource-guarding, all driven by that hormone-flush.

please desex her, before she develops any major health or behavioral problems! thank you...

If your dog was bred on October 8th, she won't start "showing" until she's about 40 days into her pregnancy (which would be around the end of November.) Her belly will swell, her nipples will elongate (get bigger) and might turn pink, and she'll begin to show "nest building" behavior (pushing around blankets and papers on the floor to make a nest for herself). She may go off her food (when the puppies start to crowd her belly), and she have the doggie version of "morning sickness" when she may spontaneously vomit.

It would be a good idea to get your dog to her vet around the end of November. He can do an xray or sonagram which will show you if there are any puppies in there, and how many pups you can expect.

You're best bet is to take her to the vet ASAP. If you don't have any experience with birthing puppies, go get advice from your vet so when the time comes your dog won't be in any danger. There is a chance she isn't pregnant, so try not to jump to any conclusions right away. Like I said, just see your vet and he/she can answer any questions.

I bred one of my pits but wasn't sure if she was impregnated so I brought her to the vet and he did an ultra sound and sure enough she was. It cost about $50. When she gets closer to delivery watch her food intake, it should decrease a great deal.
