I quote the source so the person asking the question knows where I got the information from. That way the person can check the source out for themselves for accuracy etc.

So people won't think you wrote it yourself.
So people can go find your source to check up on its value - is it some nut-job's rant you quote, some unknown without credentials, some piece of obvious propaganda, etc?
So people can check to see if you have your information correct.
