My dog just does not like cats. That is how some dogs are. What I did, and these may seem cruel but we did it on low so it did not hurt Ginger, our dog. We put a shock collor on her and when she tried to bite or chase the cat we simpley shocked her.
All dogs are smart, so your dog should not have alot of truble.

I just went through this, I got a puppy and already had two cats that are, well, er, how should I put this???they're spoiled rotten! Alright, I said it! Anyhoo, what I did was sit with them on the couch and had the dog on one side of me and the cats on the other side and I pet all of them at the same time and kept repeating "nice.....nice.....nice". Also I used treats for both so neither got jealous. Now the dog and cats get along great, they chase eachother around the yard and play nicely. The dog is now fine with all cats, she is still a puppy so sometimes she gets a little carried away, all she wants to do is play and some cats aren't necessarily as receptive to her playful advances as my wonderful cats are. It may be a little difficult to get the dog used to cats if you don't have some of your own to "experiment" on. When you're walking the dog anytime you see a cat, stop and pet her to calm her down, make the dog sit there and watch the cat. Over time the dog should get used to cats and not try to eat them or play with them until they stop moving. Good luck!

I had 3 dogs and married a man with 2 dogs and a cat.
my beagle hates cats. but the cat is fully clawed
Within a week, the beagle was ignoring the cat. They now sleep on the bed with us and the dog doens't mess with the cat. But you need to have a clawed cat, so it can defend itself.
if not - you need to start with a puppy, or a kitten...

My dog used to bite people and this is what we did. we would hit him lightly on the nose when he did not do good and when he did do good we rewarded him with treats. You don't do that all the time because you want him to do it when he knows that he wont get a treat.

I got a shock collar for my dog. (It was a last resort I promise.) It made him stop biting my daughter, but it still hasn't convinced him to stop chasing my cats. If you find something that works let me know!!!!!
