If you don't want red, orange, or spotty, it's best to pay someone to do your color correctly the firtst time. If you try to lighten your dark hair at home and you don't like it or it turns out a funny color it is much more difficult and takes much longer to fix it and still be able to run a comb through it. Corrective color is never as good as right the first time and cost 2 to 3 times more.If you mess up your color at home for a few dollars you will have to pay a whole lot more in a salon to fix it.

REVALON 10 min hair color in number 40, it's a pretty brown shade, and don't leave it on for 10 min, leave it on for 30, with a processing cap, or shower cap, because that will deffinately penetrate throught your dark color and give you a lighter color. I do it to my hair, and I know people will say that leaving 10 minute hair color in your hair for that long may not be smart, but your not losing your hair, your hair is already damaged from coloring it and everyday wear and tear, plus this is a one time thing, once you've done it, it'll be light enough for you to dye whatever color u want!

Loreal Feria has some really nice colors, which are permanent. They make colors especially to lighten dark hair, so you can lighten it right the 1st time. I have used several shades and it works wonderful!

Please don't dye your hair, go natural. You could bleach it and dye it any color you want or dye it blond and it should turn red. If you have never dyed your hair before go to a salon to have it done.
