We have had a (stray)cat hanging around and he would meow everytime I came home and when I would give him food. Now, he opens his mouth and appears to be trying to meow--but no sound is coming out. He's a stray and I really am not prepared to take on some big vet bills--so I was hoping someone here might know.

He used to meow A LOT! When I'd come home, I could hear him before I'd even open the car door. He doesn't act like he's in any pain and he's still eating fine.

If she/he isn't acting funny or doesn't seem to be in any pain, I wouldn't worry to much. Cat are just cool like that. If he/she does start acting like shes in pain, I would think about calling a vet just to hear what he thinks. You can see how much every thing will cost is something is wrong. But I really don't think there is anything to worry to much about. Just wait a while and keep an eye on him/her!

~Hope this helps =^..^=

Q. My cat doesn't Meow a lot. Is something wrong with her?

If this is sudden behavior, I'd be concerned, especially if she seems lethargic or depressed, and a vet visit would be in order. However, if she's always been on the quiet side, but otherwise seems happy and healthy, then it's perfectly normal, and it's just her nature. Cats are individuals, just like humans. I'm sure you must have a few human friends who don't talk much. I have four cats and two of them are quite talkative, while the other two do not verbalize a lot with the humans. (One, an almost 20-pound guy, tries to meow, but it comes out as a little squeak - rather endearing, actually.

Try "talking it up" with your kitty to see if she responds. One correspondent even went to the library and got a CD with sounds of cats meowing, and played it for her cat. A week later, the cat marched right up to her and gave a clear and vocal "meow."

Sometimes cats (like people) just need a bit of encouragement. If your cat remains silent, just enjoy her for herself. You might even count your blessings, as other people are troubled with excessive vocalization in their cats.

well the has the cat been meowing lately when you came home? if not i would tell the vet that there is a stray cat that is always by your house and they can take good care of him/her and then put him/her up for adoption and maybe you can take him/her in!! just email me with the subject box saying '' my cat wont meow" and i'll know who it is!!

Some cats just meow that way! I have one cat that meows really loud, and the other one does what yours does! My friend got his brother (from the same litter) and he does the same thing. There is nothing wrong with it, it is just quiet!!
