my hole is completely closed up but i just would like to know how long it should take the bump inside to heal? I went to the place where I got it pierced and they told me to wait about a month to let it heal then get it re pierced! Does that sound about right to you guys? I got it done at Claire's. Thanx for the input so far.

There are several issues that can cause bumps around piercings. Some are related to infection, and may go away. First, remove the earring.. and keep it out. Place warm/hot compresses on the area once or twice daily. This may help the bump decrease in size.

Another issue that is more difficult would be something called a "Keloid". This is basically excessive scar tissue from injury. Cells reproduce to fill in the tissue removed by the piercing. In this instance, it continues growing because the cells are uncertain when to stop.

Those who are more prone to Keloids are of Asian or African descent, and tend to be genetic. Those who are not under those categories can also have Keloids, as I am aware of people with many skin tones, (including very fair-skinned people) who have this issue.

There are various websites that claim cures for these, although I would recommend seeing a dermatologist or your general physician for treatment.

Keep an eye on it, treat it gently and with hot compresses that will not burn the skin. If it continues to bother you, seek treatment. Piercing bumps can effect the remainder of your piercings, and could cause long-term damage. I would absolutely not re-pierce the ear until you have determined the true issue, and are able to have it treated.

Edited to add: Please don't use peroxide. It is not PH balanced. It is actually harmful to skin.. use alcohol instead!
Best wishes.

Do you mean how long till it heals closed? I don't know if it ever will. I had a piercing that I stopped using but 20 years later, I put an earring through it!

If you just want to clear up an infection, clean it twice daily with peroxide. When it dries, put on some antibiotic ointment. If you want to speed up the healing process, take some vitamin C and zinc a couple times a day.

It appears like you might have a significant epidermis response/inflammation. I might cast off the earring for a at the same time and deal with it by way of first cleansing the discipline with peroxide then rinse and pat it dry then check out a few cortisone cream for the angry discipline at the exact lobe for a few days. If it will get worse see a physician instantly. It appears like computer virus bites on your snapshot however it's unusual that it does not harm, itch, or suppose hot. Usually a signal of an contamination is redness and swelling and the discipline frequently feels hot.
