I think it has to something to do with the idea that god is our father, and a father doesn't give you knowledge, he makes you earn knowledge. I wouldn't swear to it though.

Ah, you are Wiccan? Not that it matters. Back then, and still today, people are moved by sacrifice. Had he just, waved his hands and poof they're gone, people would not appreciate the gift as much. It is like a parent giving candy to a child, the child will start to expect they will be given candy when they want it, they do not appreciate the value of the gift, they will believe it is their right. Anyways, back to the orrigional explaination. Wouldn't you, as a decent human being, be moved by the man's love of you, even though you may have wronged him after all he's done to you. His sacrifice for you was a symbol (and you know how we humans just LOVE symbolism) of unconditional love. He wanted you to think, the next time you sin or think about sinning "Gosh, he did this for me and this is how I repay him?" Christ wants you to live a moral life, and this is how he got his message across.

God's universe runs according to his law, justice, and mercy.
The only law in existence at the beginning was: You sin ... you die.
Adam sinned according to the law. Satan benefitted from that sin according to the law.
Even though God didn't like it, man was stuck with the consequences of his actions.
Only a very special and sinless man could ever change things.
That man was God incarnate ... Jesus Christ.
And the reason it was necessary for Jesus to permit himself to be unjustly put to death is because that was the only way Satan's power over mankind could be destroyed.
No one, not even Satan, who had been given the power of death, had the right to take the life of a sinless man, let alone the only begotten Son of God.
Satan arranged to have Christ killed anyway, and doing so he was judged for it, found guilty, and stripped of all he had earlier gained from Adam's sin.
Jesus' mission had succeeded.
God the Father was pleased.
Jesus was raised from the dead and appointed the new head of all mankind.
Mankind was free to apologize and repent for sin.
God forgave.
And here we are!

It doesn't make sense, Power should overwhelm us, force its will on us.
But if you believe that love is a power, then you have to rethink this. Love is a power that can overcome all evil, but it cannot foce itself on anyone.
and so love is a power that suffers. A parent who loves a child will suffer great hardships so the child can live a happy life. The power of this love can create a happy life for the child, but it cannot force its will on the child and must suffer with the childs suffering.
But the parent will never abandon the child.
Love is a power that should make us shutter.
If God's power is love, than we really have to change the way we see the world.
Because you are right. It does not make any sense to the way humans think.

Hebrews 9:22
In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
Salvation could only come through Jesus Christ- for he was the ONE sacrifice for sins- through the shedding of HIS blood- God became man so that he could suffer on the cross to save us from our sins- those who believe that is- Those who put their trust in Jesus Christ are set free from their sins, by believing on what he did on the cross- dying and it was through the shedding of HIS blood that we are forgiven.
Do you know in the Old Testament about the sacrifices they had to make with animals in order to be forgiven? Well now -through Jesus that is the ONLY way- He was the one and only sacrifice so that today those who believe in HIM will be saved....

How would you appreciate Him without such a sacrifice? He is God, and is all-Holy, no sin can be in His presence.
Man was the one who sinned in the first place and made it necessary to have a sacrifice be made for our sin & wickedness.
God could have done anything, He didn't have to send His Son to die for you & me, but He did, and be grateful He did cause you & I don't deserve any of the Grace that He gives and we sure don't deserve Jesus dying for our sins, but He did.

He didn't have to die on the cross for their sins. His life was an example on how to become purified to go back to the eternal abode. He allowed himself to be put on the cross to show his causeless mercy, but he could have saved everyone from sin without that. That was a display of his mercy so those after would believe in him. God did not let him feel the lashes and pain and he did not actually die he went on preaching all over the world after he came out of the cave unknown to most Christians. There where many before him and many after him. The prue sons of God take the karma of the fallen conditioned souls out of love for them. God Himself (Krishna ) did that when He appeared 5,000 years ago. But we should not put the burden of our sin on the Saints or God. We should "Go and sin no more" as Jesus proclaimed. Stop hanging him on the cross. Go to www.essene.org for the original understanding of Christ and go to www.stephen-knapp.com for universal truths.

God sent Jesus to bear our sins. Kinda like when they used to sacrifice a goat or bull, all their intentions went up to the gods. Jesus was our sacrificial goat. He took all of our sins when he died so that we would be saved. Yes, I'm sure God could have said, "From this point on, all your sins are forgiven". However, it showed his divine love for us that he came down in human form (for Jesus was God made flesh as one third the Trinity), took on pain and suffering and died for our sins.

You're right; it doesn't make sense.
That is one reason I dismiss the religion. A powerful, loving god wouldn't need to kill anyone. Yet, people still claim that this logical fallacy is true.
And with no proof or reason. We're supposed to just swallow the tale.
It doesn't make sense that the death penalty is appropriate for children who tease others; or that a virtuous family is one that engages in incestuous rape; or that an omnipotent being needs to test the faith of his followers.
