When I originally join the military, I was a community college grad, who wanted to go to college for my bachelors and masters. I joined the military for many reasons, but paying for college was number 2 reason.

In basic training/boot camp, our instructor as for a show of hands and ninety percent of troops said that the top reasons they join was to pay for school.

As a recruiter, many young adults signed up just for school. But a very few were rich kids, most were your average American.

Man you have some issues. Most people join the military to serve their country, not because they enjoy killing people or because they want to pay for school and bills. Most of the colleges that the military will pay for are civilian colleges. Sure my parents could have paid for my college but I made to the choice to join the military. I am by no means rich either, never have been. So saying that all rich college grads proves to me that you are not affiliated with any branch of the military. Plus if you have any type of major debt, the military will not take you. They run a credit check on you and they will know who you owe, and how much you owe. So in reality you cannot join the military just to pay off bills. If you mean utilities and rent, you wont have those very long after you join unless you are married, but then you will recieve Basic Housing Allowance and Allowance for Seperate Rations.

Joined for the GI Bill and a break from school. Did my time, got out, finished my 1st bachelor, then a masters, then another bachelor. I've been back to Iraq since then as a civilian. Can't get enough of living on the edge a little. Came from a middle class family but not much money ever put away so my school expenses were on me. Builds character!

Well I Joined the Marines even though my parents would have paid for my college education. However, I wanted to serve my country. So F--k you all for thinking that only poor kids join the military as a way out. yes there are some kids who joined because they had no other options, but gues what kudos for them for trying their best to make something with their lives rather then go into crime and drugs which I am sure what some of you ******** are into....

By the way I was in an infantry unit and most of the people there came from middle class families.......

So again **** You all!!!!!!

Yes and No. I joined the military after a year of college. I joined because I wanted to serve my country and see the world. I found that I liked it and have been serving my country of 12 years. I had friends that went to college and I watched them spend the first two years of it trying to figure out what they wanted to do. Now, that they are done they have bills and working in a job they never wanted to do. Why, because they don't have any practical experience in that job. Not only will I be able to retire twice before I reach 65 but I will be able to get a good paying job after the military based on my experience.

Yes, they do. They go into the military for the same reason anyone gets a job. For money.

There are others that make the Academies which are good educations. And still others that join instead of going to college, because they want to.

People join for all different reasons. It isn't just one way or another.

I joined because I didn't have any direction after highschool and I needed to get away from my parents and learn how to survive out on my own. I also joined because the GI Bill was going to be very useful to me after I got out and I knew it.

The military is very helpful with giving people direction and teaching them to stand on their own two feet and take responsibility.

i develop into contained in the protection stress, and certain, i trust it develop into properly actually worth the 4 years contained in the army to pay for college. the protection stress is a huge sacrifice, no doubt. Buts shall we glance at it from yet another perspective. in the journey that they journey your contributions greenback for greenback, meaning you're receiving one hundred% activity on the money you make investments on your practise. you won't be able to get a better effective economic deal everywhere. the 2d mission is your economic well being once you leave college. none of the different responders even handle this unhappy actuality.: maximum college scholars bypass into fairly a lot of DEBT to finance their practise. I extremely have heard expenditures of fifty,75, even 100K after college. This debt places you, and your skill destiny kinfolk in an excellent hollow from the starting up. So, if result, in case you make contributions regularly and generously on your academic fund even as contained in the protection stress, and the protection stress suits that greenback for greenback, you'd be far ahead financially of an massive majority of your college opposite numbers.that's way less stressful to make contributions even as contained in the protection stress, because quite regularly nutrients and housing is paid for through Uncle Sam. back, the protection stress legal responsibility is a huge committment. notwithstanding, In My Humble Opinion, the business payback is necessary, and who knows, you would ok have some constructive existence memories you would no longer have had in case you hadn't joined. through the way, Barbiela is lifeless incorrect about the protection stress no longer imparting you with money for faculty. If I keep $one hundred, and the protection stress suits my $one hundred with their $one hundred, what do you call it? certain, they're imparting you with $one hundred for each $one hundred you make contributions. one hundred% p.c. activity on your money. basically one guy's opinion.

John - 1. you are not in the military. Military MEN would NEVER portray themselves in the way you are showing yourself.

2. middle class is just that. Between rich and poor.

There have been a large number of people who join the military for college expenses. I really have no sympathy for crybabies who whine they were just there for college benefits, and did not expect to actually go to a combat zone.
