My son is in 2nd grade and was playing in school outside. He was angry with a kid his age who stole his basketball and when he finally got it, he threw it at the boy and broke his glasses and the school is telling me I have to pay for the glasses because the parents don't have a warranty on the glasses. I'm a single parent, and I can't even afford my bills. I am on lots of low income programs. Will I still have to pay for the glasses?

Your kid broke someone's glasses. you should pay for them. Tell the parents that you dont have the money right now, but youre very sorry and yadda yadda, but yes, i would believe it to be your responsibility to pay for them since your child broke them.

If it had been an accident (he did throw it at the boy, and since he stole the basketball from your son, you know your son did it to be mean) it might be different.

Had he broke the glasses by accident you would not be responsible. All tho he didn't mean to break the glasses he did mean to through the ball at the boy, As so you are responsible. Not to tell you how to raise your child but you may find it better to teach him " responsibility" instead of " blame the other guy."

by law, yes, and kick your sons ***... you could also ask the parents of the child whos glasses were broke and be honest and say i have no money, is there any kind of payment we can set up... they also dont legally have to agree to take the payments, but if they are nice they will... otherwise pay up or they will take you to court and then you will just owe the court. and thats NEVER good

Legally, I can't say whether or not you'll have to pay for this or not. However, it sounds like both children were in the wrong. Maybe you can meet the other parents with the prinicpal and come to some sort of compromise like paying 1/2.

That sounds ridiculous. A child tripped me at a skating rink during a school function when I was 12 and the parents of that child didn't have to pay for my crowns to replace the broken teeth!

NO, don't do it. It's more important that you can provide for your child than someone elses. The other parents should have been smarted & gotten a warranty for the glasses, kids break stuff all the time. Just tell the school that you can't afford to buy your kid food so you can't afford to buy another kid glasses. Kids breaks stuff on accident all the time.

some of these answers are sooo ridiculous!!! umm hello the internet is cheap!! i pay 12.00 a mth for DSL. no by law you do not have to unless it is court ordered..it is the parents own fault for not having a warranty on them..kids will be kids!

yeppers. Maybe you should teach your child not to be violent.

You can afford to have the internet yet can't afford to pay your bills? Interesting. Have your internet shut off for a few months. That should cover the costs for the glasses.

absolutley and you should make your son do chores to work the debt off. Parents shouldn't allow there children to be violent. I have 5 sibiling and not one of us ever did something like that becasue we knew we would be severely punished. You obviously spoil your son and need to learn better parenting skills.
