Good and evil are judgements. People make judgements all the time, whether they live in a "civilized society" or not. Of course, what makes a society "civilized" is that its morality has evolved over time. As society progresses, we figure out more things that work and more things that are counterproductive. Remember, it was only recently that women had the right to vote.

The society does not have to be "civilized", but it does have to be a society -- and since H. sapiens cannot survive without some sort of society, the concepts must be taken as universal. We can take "good" or "moral" or "ethical" to label an act that benefits the society, "evil" as an act that detracts, and any action which has no more than an incidental effect to be morally neutral. The standards of benefit or detriment must be determined by experience; a society which survives may be supposed to have had better standards than one that does not. This is an example of evolution at work; evolution applies to societies as well as to species.

Yes, the concepts would, but in a different form. If one were barbaric, or living in times where no society existed but all were on their own, there would still be a sense of bad and good.

For example, if, as a "cave man" you were attacked by another human, you may not qualify it in the terms 'good' and 'evil' but you, on a subjective level, would definitely believe it was "unacceptable" or "bad" for you...the one being attacked. Of course, if the man attacking you was trying to take your food, your mate or your cave, then to them it would be "good".

So, all civilized society did for these personal feelings relating to events in our lives, our own choices and the choices of others against us was simply codify a common understanding of what most others considered "acceptable" and "unacceptable" to begin with.

Of course, what it really boils down to is that no event can truly be looked at as purely evil or purely good, not once you add the personalities involved in the event. The codification of common conceptions of behavior doesn't negate the fact that many people view the world differently.

To sum it up the concept, the feeling, the understanding that to yourself an event can be disastrous or fortuitous is the underlying theme for "good and evil", though the wording is different and more developed in society than in less informed times.

There is no objective good or evil, it is all based on the concept of the sum being greater than the parts, the sum of understanding of human events being greater than just one opinion.

What IS relevant is our experiences, and these should be judged not by good and evil, but by what allows progression and what stifles progression for the individual; this is NOT the same as "good and evil" as those concepts are POLARITY BASED and do a disservice to all discerning minds, who wish to see life in a higher context and do away with the clutter of control.

yes. A number of societies considered "primative" by those who call themselves "civilized" often have some concept of evil, although it may not be as micro-managed at the Civs' version.

I like that you say good and evil are concepts. Without "civilized" society others could not be called uncivilized and demonized. So NO. Without "civilized" society we would not have good and evil.

I would like to believe that people are basically decent- but history and even our own times kind of disprove that.
Without God's laws, the people before the Hebrews seemed to be pretty bad- if you think child sacrifice is bad.
