I have a gentle and very loving rottweiler and get very sad when people say that they are devil dogs, I also have children, and they adore her. I cannot understand if you haven't got a rottweiler how would you know what they are like to have as a pet? p.s she is not a guard dog!

The problem is that some people who own Rottweilers are irresponsible pet owners who do not train (or even abuse and neglect) their dogs. Unfortunately, Rottweilers have been involved in several fatal attacks on humans in the last few years and people tend to associate the breed with violence and aggressive behaviour because of media reports about those incidents. Also, some people are intimidated by the size and appearance of Rottweilers. The fact that some are used as police or guard dogs only adds to people's wariness of the breed. Of course, the majority of family-owned Rottweilers are loving, well-adjusted dogs who are no more likely to cause harm to a human than a Golden Retriever.

I think Rottweilers are pussycats, gentle giants and adorable, we have a golden retriever who plays with two rottweilers every night in our local park, never once have those dogs shown any aggression to our dog or us, they are just soft and gentle and the owner is a great person who has trained her dogs beautifully, even the kids in the park like the dogs too, your a good owner who has obviously trained her dog properly, its never the dogs fault, its the wrong type of people those big softies get landed with, I say until you have got to know one of these beautiful dogs then don't be mean about them or judge them harshly.

I love rotties, i have the same problem with my 2 dogs, they are English Bull Terriers, i get people mumbling things at me when im walking them, crossing over the raod whilst glaring horribly at me. Its all because of the bad meida they get, they never report on how loving and kind these dogs can be - once they bite they get spread all over the news and from then on they are vicious evil dogs.

But when do you ever soo or hear in the papers or on the news of when a lab or some other breed of dog bites? You dont.

Rotties are lovely, i have never had one but have known one it they are great, loving family dogs.

As said in other posts though - dont get me worng, they can be aggressive but any dog who is trained that way is going to be, if you train you dog to be a loving family pet, that that is what it will be.

I am a bit nervous around all big powerful dogs and as a mother would not like these dogs around my children, because of the fear that if they did attack my children I wouldn't be able to overpower them. This may seem a bit irrational, but its because I was bitten on the face by a large dog when I was a small child. It belonged to a family friend and was a lovely dog but it developed a brain tumour that nobody knew about and it affected its behaviour. I'm sure your dog is gentle and loving, but I just wouldn't feel safe owning one myself.

I like Rottweilers. I think they are very gentle and cool. I never own a Rott but someday would like to.

I resent the fact that some people think Rotts are evil. People need to realize it's not the breed of the dog but the people who own them that makes dog "bad". Bad people raise bad dogs just like bad people raise bad kids.

Rotties if trained properly and if they aren't inbred to hell are lovely dogs, I've never owned one personally but my neighbour has one and she is a really sweet natured dog, unfortunately at the moment they are 'branded'!! devil dogs, but that's only the press' description and of course 'sheep' follow and you have people who don't understand dogs calling them the same thing! I keep German Shepherds and they also have had a very bad press at times, don't let it worry you and it will be another breed next month!!

I think rotties are BEAUTIFUL dogs. My first dog was a Doberman (at the age of five), then a Rotti, then a lot of pit bulls, one of which I still have who is now eleven years old. So I know what you mean about people telling you that your dog is evil and all that other hooplah. Every dog I have ever had has some sort of stereotype against it. It's ridiculous.

I have two rotts too. They're absoulutely as sweet as can be. Dogs are a product of they way they're raised, not their breed. Our oldest is 3 and we have a 6 month old puppy. They're huge and playful sometimes, but they're never rough with me or the children. The big one doesnt mind when the kids try to ride him, he usually sits down though. They both will cuddle with me in bed if my husband's not home and I'm lonely. Sometimes, I'll catch him napping with the dogs too.

I love rottweilers!! Most of the ones I know of, that my friends own, are very gentle and are great with kids. There are some, though, whose owners have abused them and train them to fight. They give the breed a bad name.

I have a pic of my 20 month old nephew riding his full grown rott. That dog loves me he thinks he is a lap dog, it is sooo cute. He is also VERY well behaved. He doesn't even attack other dogs that try attacking him when we go on our daily run. With Rottis, like any other dog, it is all about how you raise and train them. They are huge and can be vicious if you train them to be, but if you don't they are awesome pets, and they can pull your kids in sleds in the snow.
