I understand the atonement of Christ for Christians. Why is it that other religions stopped animal sacrifice? Did their God change his mind about atonement?

Thanks Muslims i was not aware that you still made animal sacrifice...Jewish people if God required sacrifice to be made in the Temple...Why did God tell Abraham to make a sacrifice of Issac on a mountain?

R.W. I understand that Abraham was told to sacrifice pre temple...so why not post temple? Could it be Moriah was the only acceptable place for sacrifice? If so that leads to many interesting questions. thanks for your information.

The Jews were only allowed to sacrifice in the temple. Consequently, no temple, no sacrifice. Christ told them that His coming would make an end to sacrifices. Not long after the death and resurrection of Christ, the temple was destroyed and sacrifices stopped.

The mountain where Abraham went to sacrifice Isaac is the same mountain where the Temple was later built. It is also the same mountain where David bought the threshing floor from Auranah and used the oxen and wood to make a sacrifice to God. Both of these acts were done before the Temple was built.
People keep commenting about why Jerusalem should belong to the Jews instead of the Palestinians. David was king of the Jews and he bought and paid for the Temple Mount. I always thought if you bought something, it was yours.

he didn't change his mind.

but unlike what christians think, the blood was never the point.

the honest repentance and intent that the SACRIFICE represented, is what "did it".

which is part of the reason the whole idea of jesus being a "perfect sacrifice" is so nonsensical to judaism... the jewish messiah was never meant to be such a thing, and the whole concept is bizzare.

since the temple no longer stands, animal sacrifices can't be done anyway.

but they aren't needed, so its ok.

edit: >>"Christ told them that His coming would make an end to sacrifices. Not long after the death and resurrection of Christ, the temple was destroyed and sacrifices stopped."<<
... which proves he was *NOT* the messiah. The Messiah of Judaism was supposed to rebuild the temple... reinstate god's kingdom... which would be seated at the temple.

edit: umm, you do realize the binding of issac was LONG before there was a temple to begin with, right?

and the part that it wasn't supposed to be a sin offering, or to ever actually be gone through with...

djmantx,
For one thing; It was about trusting God all along. The temple in not yet there for the Jews. So their sacrifices wouldn't be proper until that occurred.

The Muslms get a phone call when their cow is sacrificed. I saw that on a cable station where all the Muslim pilgrims are gatering, I think it was at Mecca. That's a series that appeared, as I said, on a cable channel.

Christians have their sacrifice, and it was Jesus. But the Christians do still sacrifice, themnselves to do His work. So it's not typically a blood sacrifice, unless they are killed for their faith.

Muslims still sacrifice animals in the name of Allah. This occasion is the 2nd biggest festival for Muslims, Eid ul Adha. it is celebrated right after Hajj is completed.

the Jewish sacrificial service must take place in the Temple in Jerusalem and thus it ended with the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 66CE, 1940 years ago. It will resume when the Temple is rebuilt.
