No, not another bash the Muslims question, I'm just curious. What do you see when you happen to see fine art nudes such as the statues of David or Venus: beauty or pornography?

It depends on the person. Of Course we all appreciate beauty!

But we have different approaches: For example As a Christian I use to paint human forms and I did win many awards for my painting. The reason why I choose to do this was because I feel than in a way inevitably I would tried to make my paintings perfect and reaalistic, and try to mimic the creation of God. Since I am not GOD I should not even temp to Mimic God, not even through art. What he creates is perfect and should not be imitated. But again that is my opinion!

After I became a Muslim I stopped painting them (human animals all together) and making sculptures as well. I appreciate art, that has not stopped, but I prefer not to make human forms. I paint flowers and fruits :) Nothing alive! I try not to make them look perfect or like the real thing, I always leave details :)

we do appreciate beauty you know. I mean, first of, as u may know nude pictures, sculptures etc is unacceptable for us to view and create. But it is not because we find the human form repulsive. Infact, we believe that since God created us in absolute perfection, we are supposed to be thankful for this. Okay, most of us dont actually do this, but as you may know for us there is a prayer for everything, and when looking into the mirror we read a DUA, the meaning of which is 'Oh Allah you have made my physical constitution good, so make my (inner)disposition good to and keep my face safe from hell fire. Praise be to Allah who has fashioned me and made me proportionate and honored my face and made me of the muslims'

that just an example of the fact that we as muslims do appreciate the human form

My (pitifully scant) understanding of Islam is that to attempt to reproduce creation by copying a 'God-created' form such as a beast, flower etc. is considered wrong. Therefore your question could be considered similar to asking a Jew or inded a Muslim, if they like bacon??
Islamic art is 'confined' to forms that do not mimic creation. If we learned about other peoples' faith, perhaps this question would not have arisen?

of course!!

Allah says
“We have honored the children of Adam, carried them on the land and the sea, given them pure sustenance and exalted them above most of My creatures. (17:70)”

statues are statues!! nothing "sexualy" desirable about them.
but pornography is a sin.
