Well, I know how you feel.

My life is a total shambles. The man I love CLAIMS to want to marry me, but is always off searching for other women as soon as my back is turned.

And now, if that wasn't enough, he has got another woman pregnant.

Life just couldn't get any worse.

This is going to sound harsh - but the first thing you have to ask before you can help yourself is this: Why not you?

Depression (or any illness for that matter) is just that - an illness. there is no control over who it affects as such, and there is no rhyme or reason. It happens at random and everyone is susceptible.

I have suffered depression in various degrees since I was 14. Its horrible I know, and I also understand that there are days when you do wonder what you could have ever done to deserve such a horrible thing. Again, the answer is this - you haven't done anything to deserve it.

What you do need to think about now is what you can do to make yourself feel better. I believe you will already know what you can do at this point, ie contacting a doctor or looking into counselling and/or antidepressants, and its about taking the step to helping yourself.

Don't get me wrong, I understand this is extremely hard, I've been where you are now and no-one could get through to me for a very long time. It took me thinking hard about whether I wanted to try and change things, or whether I wanted to let depression overcome everything, or even in the end lead me to kill myself.

There is help out there - sometimes its good to start by just talking to someone. I found the Samaritans online to be helpful. You dont have to talk directly to someone, but you can put down everything in writing and they will get back to you as quickly as they can.

Whatever the situation - please dont blame yourself for depression. Its about the chemical make-up of your brain. This CAN be made better, but you have to want to try.

You don't deserve it??? what makes you so special that you are exempt from being depressed?? we live to learn from our mistakes. if we had no bumps in the road we would be a weak minded person and we could never progress in life. I thought the same thing you did: that I didn't deserve the life I was given. I thought if i live my life right and do what i am supposed to i will never have any grief, just joy. Guess what, I was wrong. terrible things happen to good people and there is no way to stop that from happening. That's just life. You need to use the not so goodexperiences as stepping stones, not stumbling blocks.
if you are truly depressed see your dr and maybe a counselor. there are very good meds available to help with depression. seeing a counselor can help you work through the junk and move on. I hope you don't think i am being harsh--i'm just trying to help.

peace&hope

Take a fast walk - half as far as you can. That will give you the other half to walk back home.
Fast - that is, give up food for a day - it will sure give you something else to think about.
See your doctor. It may be clinical depression. I have been there; it is no fun and there are medications that can help.
I wrote the above before I read the other answers. Honest the exercise will do enormous good. Medication is last resort. Try it.

I've been depressed, quite severely, but I always say 'Well, why NOT me'? See I believe everyone in life gets their share of crap and all we can do is our best.

Of course no one DESERVES to be ill but it is a part of life.

You need support, depression can be very difficult to go it alone so you need to see your doctor as soon as you can.

To try to fight this, you need to try to replace negative thoughts with more positive. I know there will be times when you just feel like shouting and screaming and crying and that's ok. But then you need to fight back again.

I wish you well.

Too much introspection causes depression. To stop dwelling on self, such as what I want, what I need, what I deserve, what I don't deserve, etc., etc.,

The happiest people are those who focus on others, how they can encourage, support, and lighten the loads of others.

In the meantime they can't help but feel much better about themselves.

I know, it's totally unfair and I feel you on this subject because I often feel the same way.

We don't deserve it, so we have to try and get out of it. That's the best and most logical answer I can give you. Work out--it gives you endorphins, and just do stuff that makes you happy.

See your doctor he can refer you to a counsellor or mental health professional and prescribe tablets. Some people will tell you that tablets are a bad thing, I couldn't disagree more, they saved my life. The problem is you have to get the right ones and that can mean trying several.
