I have a chi and everytime she barks, i use the spray bottle method, but you have to say quiet whe you spray them. If you dont say quiet, they will never have a work to associate to not barking and you'll have to use a spray bottle forever. After enough, she will stop barking when you say quiet. Also DO NOT USE A BARK COLLAR. They are very dangerous for any dog under 1 year old. When it turns 1 go ahead, but not before that.

Welcome to the world of being a chihuahua owner. I don t own one myself but know many who do...and they are known for being quiet the talkers. I used a no bark collar on my dog, she is a lab mix and it worked great. Its a citronella based spray and it is approved by the SPCA which means it not gonna harm your dog in anyway. Another thing many trainers recommend is actually teaching your dog to bark on command. Its easier to train your dog not to bark when they actually understand what it means to bark :-D I used this method with my Mizz Molly and it worked very well.
I hope this has been at least a lil helpful. Also a search on google or yahoo may help you find other training techniques you can use that maybe more breed specific.

With our chihuahua we would spray water in his face every time he barked. He would also bark at people walking by or just a noise he heard - with each bark came a spray of water in his face. He is now a year old and hasn't barked at people in months. You have to be consistent though and firmly say "no bark" while you spray him. Our will still occasionally make a quiet growling sound, but no bark.

Buy a shock coller. Allot of the dogs you see on TV where trained with a shock collar. You can get a cheap one that is made to shock the dog if he barks more than once or twice for around $50. You might want to keep it on a low setting because he's so small.

I use a shake can for my west highland terrier-also yappy. When she gets out of control ,a good shake of the can (a pop can with about ten pennies inside and sealed up) and a firm "NO" now stops her. I have also taught her to woof softly instead of her high-pitched bark by simply putting my finger on my lips and saying"Shhhh". She responds very well.

A spot of lemon on the tongue when they bark may be a temporary solution . I try to distract my dog . You can say "no barking " all day & they get excited and bark . When I say ''sit down" or "go to your room " ( special place ) , that works once in awhile .

they do sell anti-bark collars. they have a box on them that vibrates when the dog barks, discouraging the dog from barking. i don't know a whole lot about them, but you could ask a vet or do a search.
