No.

This one probably won't get best answer but it's the truth.

I've had close calls before and I never prayed.

Well once DID think my death was imminent. When I was 19, the plane I was on caught fire, right beneath where I was sittiing. I looked out, saw the stream of flames and thought, clearly and calmly, "So, THIS is how I'm going to die. How 'bout that?" The thought of praying to anyone or anything did not cross my mind for ONE SECOND. I was very calm, to my surprise!

I think if my death were imminent, I'd have more to deal with than something as silly as praying.

Everyone's death is imminent, I haven't prayed yet...

Why waste time praying? I'd be talking to my real life loved ones, or the firemen rescuing me, or the doctors trying to cure me, whatever may be the case. Praying just uses up precious time.

This question doesn't make any sense.

An atheist by definition doesn't pray:

1.the doctrine or belief that there is no God.
2.disbelief in the existence of a supreme being or beings.

Pray by definition generally includes a spiritual entity:

pray  /preɪ/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[prey] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–verb (used with object)
1.to offer devout petition, praise, thanks, etc., to (God or an object of worship).
2.to offer (a prayer).
3.to bring, put, etc., by praying: to pray a soul into heaven.
4.to make earnest petition to (a person).
5.to make petition or entreaty for; crave: She prayed his forgiveness.
6.to offer devout petition, praise, thanks, etc., to God or to an object of worship.
7.to enter into spiritual communion with God or an object of worship through prayer.

Would a Christian all of a sudden call out to Allah?
Would a Jew call out to Jesus?

Of course not.

I always felt silly when I tried to pray when I was young. I'm ok with facing things as they are. I don't need to pray.

The last time I faced death, I didn't.

This was when I was fully expecting to die within about 8 seconds, as I had a parachute malfunction. Besides fumbling to get my reserve open, my only thought was "****, this is gonna hurt..."

So, speaking from experience, I can give you a definitive... NO.

Been there, done that, no I didn't pray. I simply thought, "Hm. I could accept death right now without regrets," and then woke up later.

No, I think as an athiest my focus on death lies more in what I will leave behind, not where I'm going. I would focus on hopes that my family will be alright, that my children will be taken care of, that no one will be stuck with my bills... less so worrying about myself.
