She may be ready to eat cereal now, and start on baby food after she's mastered cereal. You should check with your pediatrician before trying it because they need to be able to sit up well and have lost the tongue-thrust reflex.
There is a lot of conflicting information out there about babies starting solids and allergies. Our pediatrician told us that the theory that if you give your baby solids too soon, they can develop food allergies has been debunked. You'll still find a lot of alarming websites out there encouraging you to hold off on solids. Don't believe those sources. Go to you pediatrician and they'll help you work out a plan.

At about six months, if your baby hasn't started on solids
yet now is the time to start. Waiting until six months is
ideal as your baby's immune system is developed enough to
start protecting him against infection. This reduces the
risk of developing allergies. To avoid allergies, and so that any reactions to certain foods can be noticed, introduce single fruit or vegetable purées one at a time; don't give it again for four days so
you can observe any reactions, for example diarrhoea, rash
or runny nose. Try to keep a food diary for the baby, it will allow you to keep track of ALL foods consumed in the event of a reaction.
After the first two or three weeks you can begin combining
two or more foods in the same meal. Gradually introduce a
wide variety of different foods so that your baby receives
a broad selection of all the various nutrients needed for a
healthy diet.
During your baby's first year you must avoid giving:
· Added sugar - the sugar you add to food not that which
naturally present in fruits, vegetables and milk.
· Honey - there is a small risk of food poisoning from a
toxin which is very rarely present in unpasteurized honey.
· Salty foods - if babies have too much salt their kidneys
might not be able to get rid of it.
All of that being said, PLEASE confirm these things with your child's peditrician. This advice is for a normally healthy child, who has no other health concerns. Your child needs to be considered as an individual, not as one of the group when making these decisions.

As long as they can hold up their head and control it they can start eating. I started my baby on cereal at 5 1/2 months. Usually at night before bedtime. Then when she reached 6 months or so I started feeding her a veggie in the afternoon and still rice cereal in the evening. After a couple weeks of that I would switch to fruit instead of veggies. Then I guess when she was 7 months I started feeding her both veggy and a fruit in the afternoon and still rice cereal at night. Now that she is nine months today I feed her almost everything. Even some table food. Good luck.

You should always consult your doctor, but usually once they are 4months old they can start on some vegetables and fruits. You may want to start with the rice cereal first thought. Most infants still have a very hard tounge thrust, and the rice cereal is cheaper to use when you are trying to see if they will eat or just push it out. Have fun! I loved it when my son started eating baby food. He made the best faces.

Your baby can have rice cereal at around 4 months (any earlier than that is unwise). Your baby does not need any other source of nutrition aside from breast milk or formula until they are a year old. Although most of us introduce solids between 4 & 6 months old. Once you have introduced rice cereal start them on the jars of baby food a few months later - start with veggies!! I started my youngest on fruits and he has a terrible sweet tooth because of it.

You can start a baby on Stage One of baby food. The fruits and vegetables are really good from my daughter's point of view, she loved the squash and all the fruits. There are these things called bannana bites the desolve in the mouth, my daughter liked those a lot. They are small so the baby can't choke on them. If you decide to give you baby food that you eat the doctors say make the bites as small as your pinky finger width.

My pediatrician told me that you can introduce single ingredient foods (i.e. rice cereal, veggies, fruit) once the baby is able to sit up on their own. However, I started a little earlier than that with "rice cereal", a small amount at the "evening feeding time" and my kids would usually sleep through the night.

My doctor recommended that I start feeding my son at 4 months. I usually start with the cereals, then work my way through Veggies, fruits, then meats.
Gerber has a food chart that can help you.
http://www.gerber.com/starthealthy
Basically with cereal you start with 1 tbsp of cereal to 6 ounces of milk, then each day for 3 days you increase by a tbsp. Or, you can go slower if you want.
I tend to go slowly since my baby was on rice cereal since he was 2 months because it helped his reflux.
Cereal feeders work great for thicker mixtures or you can use your same bottles with a later stage nipple. Some even have cereal nipples.
I started my daughter off with veggies, then fruits and meats. She eats a ton of vegetables and prefers them over meat. Her favorites are broccoli, green beans, tomatoes and cucumbers.
I'm just starting my son off with sweet potatoes and squash. Tonight is green beans.

I started my babies on rice cereal when they were only weeks old. I would say at 4 months old you can start giving the baby rice cereals bananas. Just be sure it is a mild type food for them at first.
