My youngest sister wants the same future as you and she's ten. I worry about it enough to look at the possibilities. You do have a lot of time and if you love the performing arts and have any skill at it, perhaps it is the future for you. You have time so get involved in what dance/music/etc schools and activities are available to you. Practice, practice, perform, perfom. Keep a portfolio of what you're doing, then start at a basic college to get just a bachelors in General Education with a lot of emphasis on dance and/or music. Even if you for some reason can't pull off a career in perfoming art you'll have a degree that can get you somewhere and help you pay the bills. If after that you still are intrested go for such a career. Look through the portfolio you've made to make a great resume or college application. In high school check to see what dance/music/theater scholarships are available, there are a lot! Apply for all of them, the more you apply the better you're chances. No matter what career you decide on the advice I'm giving applies. Teaching or any career involving the art world is rough and it is a long haul. What ever you decide on do what YOU want to do, stick with it like glue and whatever it is and you can pull it off. Best of Luck!

Get the very best basic education you can get first. This will set you up to be a teacher. Take all the dance classes you can afford.

Don't worry about your looks so much. If you have talent, you can disguise ordinary looks so that you look great!

You know tall girls often have better opportunities than shorter ones.

Do you play the piano or an instrument? There are private lessons all over the place for every instrument.

Careers in dance are very short so you have to have education to back you up so you can be a teacher of dance or music. Or even just a teacher has many opportunities.

There are so many colleges out there that will over to you the best of both worlds! Dance can always be a part in your life, you could minor in it and teach it somewhere in your community.

Your still young and have yet to grow "into" yourself. What really matters is whats inside. And if your thinking about this already, you must be a very beautiful person, just give it time. Never let anyone tell you different. And the best of luck with everything!

If you imagine yourself writing and producing your own work someday, or running your own production company or troupe, you may want to study business management, finance or grantwriting and development. If you are interested in law, that is a good degree to have in conjunction with any other interest you may have. If you want to perform with established productions, I would network around -- trying out for both theatre, comedy, modern dance, anything. Schools are a good way to network, either studying theatre or dance. You can also volunteer at a dance, theatre or art group to get a better idea of what areas interest you most. Modern dance now uses multimedia visuals like theatre, so there is a lot you could pursue in production if you are interested. For general assessment of your best skills, I highly recommend the book "What Color is Your Parachute" by Dr. Richard Bolles. This manual is filled with fun charts and exercises that help you to visualize and identify your best skills and talents that make you marketable.

Note: When I went through this book, I thought I just planned to teach math; but it revealed that my strongest skills were in advertising media. So while I work a regular job, I use that income to hire vocalists, actors, and performers to record radio spots that I plan to turn into music and dance videos to promote charitable causes. If you are interested in this type of independent production, please see sample links below. If you if have any interest in writing and producing your own material, I highly encourage the same.

Ok, I don't know much about ballet and jazz, but I think you should pursue what you love. Life is too short to do something you don't love. I guess you can start with modern ballet, so you can stick to your jazz instead of traditional classical. Maybe down the road, if you get too old to dance, you can get into teaching ballet.

This is a great time for you with so many options.I suggest that you join the local drama group, find friends who will play jazz with you,do auditions for the school play.dance as much as you can at parties and have a wonderful time.By broadening your experience in these activities you will be in a good position later to decide a career that uses your talents in the most satisfying way.

Sounds like a "Dance Studio" could be in your future. Your Studio! Teaching dance and possibly choreographing your own dances! That would be everything you want to pursue!
Go for it!
Good Luck!

You shuoldn't put yourself down like that. I think you should become a dancer (not negatively) if that is what you want to do. Or get a carrer in musical theatre. That is singing and dancing. Good Luck.
