Ok my parents are US residents, ive never been illegal in the US cuz i came as a turist in that "turist" time my dad (i dont know how to say this) send the papers and everything so i can become a resident too, About 1 year and 3 months ago they(goverment or immigration or the ppl that do that) send me a letter saying that my residence was approve and that now i just will have to wait 990 days to get my green card

My question is after that 990 days im gonna get my green card (wish i think i am but some1 told my mom that im just gonna get an id and work permission, cuz the letter says that after the 990 i could get in adjust? i dont know what that means?) obviously i can't travel cuz i wont be able to get in the US again, so can u tell me if after that time im gonna get my green card & travel? or an "adjusment" and what is that mean??

(PS. im not married, my dad did that when i was 17, and ive never been illegal so they wont punish me)

Thanks for all your help.

First: Have your father speak to someone at homeland security (immigration). If you have been granted residence as the child of a legal resident, you can now come and go as you please. You WILL need a "parole" document to return to the USA.

The Green Card process does take a while, but is a step in the citizenship process if this is something that you want to do one day.

Again, 1st thing to do: have your father contact homeland security to find out what is next, and how you can come into the country. If your tourist visa is still valid, you can use this to come and go.

Giving you have or getting a green card enables you to travel. Entering back into the country of your origin most likely accept that green card to enter and return as they would with a USA citizen. There are some rules for green card holds leaving the USA but at your age I don't think it would be much. When you are older work and pay taxes here there are forms you will need to fill out before leaving.

Your word adjustment I am not sure what you are trying to say. Unless it has to do with your age then you will probably make some changes once you are over 21years old.

are u still under 21? and were you petitioned by your parents assuming they are US Citizens. What i do know that if you do not receive ur green card before you turn 21, USCIS may deny you adjust of status cuz you would no longer qualify. I suggest you get a good attorney to make sure you don't get screwed.

Got this info from USCIS Website:

"Once USCIS receives your visa petition (Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative), it will be approved or denied. USCIS notifies the person who filed the visa petition of the petition was approved. USCIS will then send the approved visa petition to the Department of State's National Visa Center, where it will remain until an immigrant visa number is available. The Center will notify the foreign national when the visa petition is received and again when an immigrant visa number is available. You do not need to contact the National Visa Center, unless you change your address or there is a change in your personal situation, or that of your sponsor, that may affect eligibility for an immigrant visa, such as reaching age 21, marriage, divorce, or death of a spouse."

Don't assume ur protected just cuz you got that letter. I wouldn't be comfortable until i have possession of the actual green card in my hands and not some notice saying i have to wait 990 days and then get my green card.

You will be fine, if your parents are citizens then you should be able to get a green card, and then later apply for citizenship. Your will get a green card, then you can apply for a social security card, and only after you get your social security card you will be able to legally work in the U.S. I had the same situation, my parents became citizens, then they applied for me. I got my green card first, I had it for seven years before I became a citizen. Its a long process, and don't hesitate to try to contact somebody at the embassy or wherever your dad sent that paperwork to, you have to be very persistent to get any information out of them. If your parents are not citizens, just residents then you will have a harder time, you have a less chance of getting that green card, but if they already promised you one then you should get it. And yes, once you get a green card you will be able to easily travel wherever you wish, even though you won't have an official American passport. Good luck!

The thumbs down to this question shows that the anti-"illegals" here in this forum are indeed not concerned about the ILLEGAL immigrants but just IMMIGRANTS coming here. You and your parents did everything legally and that's still not enough.

That said, my own personal experience is that when you get the letter saying you are approved they will give you a work permit right away. They did for my husband. After that it's just a matter of waiting until the send you a letter to come for your interview for the green card.

Welcome to the USA!

Once you get your green card or permanent resident card as they are now known, you will be able to work, travel, get a social security card, drivers license and live a normal life
