Currently I am taking Provigil to treat my hypersomnia. I had just found out about RLS a few months ago and I feel like i know for sure i have RLS. I have the urge to move basically ALL my body parts (legs, fingers, neck, thighs, toes etc.) because of a tingling that goes away with movement. Sometimes when I wake up, I wake up with my whole body jerking up. I'm just wondering how RLS causes hypersomnia? Is it because the muscles are moving constantly and prevents me from sleeping calmly?

It sucks because Provigil gives me the energy i need to stay awake during the day, but i still feel exhausted in the morning. I feel like sleeping gives me no energy, but is expended with provigil

Er, sorry I forgot to add that I've had the RLS symptoms since i was very small, probably around 6 yrs. old. My parents just told me it was growing painsm so i believed them. In othe words, I had the RLS symptoms long BEFORE i started taking Provigil

RLS causes insomnia, not hypersomnia. And yes, the constant need to move prevents adequate sleep. There are new medications that treat RLS quite successfully, talk to your doctor.

Your symptoms sound more like your bodies response to being over medicated, as opposed to RLS. RLS is a "pseudo-syndrome" as classified by the Medical Sciences report on it. In other words RLS is a syndrome that was invented by drug companies who accidentally invented a drug that had different applications than originally intended. RLS is marketed towards patients with a history of hypochondria, and hypochondritis. This would make sense why you seem to think you now have RLS. I suggest, as a practicing M.D. and N.D., that your symptoms of tingling and such are caused by reactions to the medications you are already on. A period of fasting and body cleansing should help to clear up the symptoms. I suggest Valerian root, and Metho-sulfated Chamomile flowers for your cleansing, and the Valerian root should replace your hypersomnia drugs. Your hypochondria cannot be cured with a pill, or herb however. Please consult with your M.D. before starting or stopping any treatments.
