I own two yorkshire terriers. As little dogs, its really important you take them into the vet whenever something is wrong with them, or for consistent check ups, since they are more prone to SOME illnesses. Its also important you not carry them around all the time when you first get them. They will get used to being babyed, and it will be hard for them as an adult. I did that with my first yorkie, and he is always crying when he is by himself. With my second yorkie, I gave him attention, but let him wander and got him used to being alone with the other yorkie, and he is VERY energetic, loving, and an ideal companion. Train them QUICKLY, they are the quickest learners, and they don't like being mocked. Potty training is important, get a doggy door because pee pads are still telling them its okay to pee inside. Make sure you have a tag for them, and that all your fences are blocked and gated so that the little guy can't escape. I would also reccomend either soon or down the line getting him another dog preferable his size to play with, because they have a lot of fun with companions while you are out and about.

my family spent 27 years owning 2 or 3 yorkies they are a terrific bread need very little exercise but can be quite little yappers. GREAT dogs full of love but not a dependant as a beagle (the bread i have now - i wanted another yorkie but my husband didnt) you should have fun they are truely great.

They are prone to heart problems and teeth problems because of the size of them and can be agressive to strangers and other dogs. My specially little pup given to me when I was 12 and died when I was 27 HATED men

yes i have had 3 .they are great little dogs.i can tell you they are very hard to house break.and be very careful with them jumping off furniture.they break bones easy. brush there coats at least twice a week.there hair(not fur)Matt's and once it does its very hard and painful to get out with out shaving them.i agree with jahannah yorkies do better when they live with another yorkie. shes also right about carrying them a round alot when there young.i made that mistake also.

I own two Yorkies, very tiny little guys. They don't require any more attention than any other breeds.Very kicked back little guys, very easy to train, but be sure to keep your pet up to date on all vaccinations/dewormings,and you will have a very loveable little pet for many years.

My girlfriend has had one since she was 3, she's 17 now... its cool the dog loves her, but it will bite the crap outta me if i go near her or the dog. I swear its a sexist dog. But to her its a good dog.
