Ive heard that when vista comes out that games that are released afterwards are unplayable unless you have bista since it supports direct x 10.
Is this true?
will I need to get a new vid card to support direct x 10?

windows vista is still in its late beta stage and direct x 10 is still in its infancy so i would leave it well over a year after its release before using direct x 10 to play games
however i have vista beta dual booted with xp and i have played doom 3 and far cry using vista but with direct x 9.0c and i had no problems,so the vista structure will be ok for games, like you say its direct x 10 which is untried but as soon as game producers start using the direct x 10 then i am sure that the problems will iron out
vista will be capable of playing all games ,before and after launch as vista has the best compatibility wizard so far and i managed to play a windows 95 game in vista with no problems
dont listen to idle gossip, vista will be a evolution in home computing and that will be for games aswell, expect cutting edge graphics
finally ,to run vista you will need a graphic card with pixel and shader model 2.0(radeon 9550,ge-force fx5500) and at least 128mb ram
a good budget card with pixel and shader model 3.0 is the nvidia ge-force 6200(256mb) and can be bought from dabs, take a look at http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?Quicklinx=42YL&CategorySelectedId=11137&PageMode=1&NavigationKey=11137,42220000,353180000&InMerch=1,i use this card and i can play doom at high settings and frame rates of 50+
GOOD LUCK

sence the compuiters and windows are getting more creative, computers are getting more complicative. you are able to get Windows Vista FREE from their site, but not alot of programs and games work on vista, you are lucky that your programs work on it. Stay with the version you have for windows. i have XP. there are themes on http://www.crystalxp.net that make ur XP computer look like Vista. if ur computer is vista compatable u can use vista themes so there you go.

Most probably, yes.
That's just one of the many ways Microsoft get money out of you ;-)
