i work in a nursery and we have a 14 month old baby who doesn't walk either. he is not chunky just not interested since he can get everywhere he wants to go without having to walk. some babies develop physically first, some feel the need to figure out their world before they go explore it. my son is almost 12 month now and seems content to crawl. i encourage him to walk and rarely get more than a giggle as a result.

My daughter was 8lbs 14 ozs, but she thinned out her first year and she began walking about 11 months. I am not sure if there is anything to be concerned about. Do you try working with her? My husband and I would sit accross from each other on the floor, at first only a couple feet and get her to come to us from the other. Gradually we got a little further and further away from each other until it was across the room and away she went walking everywhere. Maybe try something like that. Good Luck!

I think that 13 or 14 months is average for babies beginning to walk. One of my children was 17 months one was 11 months (he was over 9lbs at birth and very chunky baby) and me third son was 14 months old. If she is not showing any signs of walking by 18 months call your doctor.

Every child is different. Don't get scared. Kids start walking anywhere from 10 months to 15 months. Some progress fast, some slower. It has nothing to do with intelligence. Be patient. If you notice signs like she's in pain when she trys, or she's not even cruising then you should make an appointment with her peds dr, but like I said, giver her time. Remember when she starts she won't stop and she'll get into everything sooner.

Yes. We had the same question about our 14 month old and was told even up to 24 months is normal for some babies.
Our son just flipped a switch one day and walked like a champ...they'll walk when there ready!

Yes its normal. My first 2 sons started walking a few days after their 1st birthday and then my 3rd son started walking at 15 months. He is normal. It is not a cause for concern until they are older than 18 months.

It is true that each child is different. Is she "normal" in all other ways? I would talk with your childs doctor if you really feel that its a problem. Some children start walking long before they turn 1 and some wait a while. If she is fine with other motor type skills then its not something I would worry about. She is most likley just taking her own time to do things.

I have three children who all walked a bit earlier then most. Each child develops differently based on many factors including age, encouragement, weight, etc. You have to follow your basic instincts as a parent, if the question has to be asked in your mind regarding your child ... consult your pediatrician! No one will be able to ease your concerns like a knowledgeable practitioner. With our little ones, our future, it is ALWAYS better safe then sorry!!!

It doesn't sound like anything to worry about, especially if she is already walking on a walker. Some babies don't walk on their own until they are 16 or 17 months old.
I'm assuming here that your daughter is able to take at least a few steps on her own.

Every child is different. My daughter didn't begin walking until she was 16 months old. I think you should get rid of her walker. She can't learn balance if she has something to keep her up all the time.
