I am doing a System Recovery on my laptop hoping that it'll make some problems go away. It asked me for the recovery disks #1 (I'm assuming this is the 3 Recovery disks I made a long time ago). Then it asked me for disk#2, which I put it. After 25 minutes, it asked for the first CD again, and then the 2nd. It has asked me to this several times. I am now in the middle of the 4th time. It hasn't asked for disk#3 yet.
Is this normal? Will it keep asking me to insert#1, and then #2 over and over? Or is it messed up?

I have an 80G hard drive, so it's not small. I can put several hours of video on it and it's just fine.

Why was the choice made to use the System recovery CDs that came with your PC vs. the System Restore option?
In most cases the "System Restore" will restore your PC to the point that it was last updated or new software was installed.
Time and disks requested depends on what needs to be recovered/restored. Normally you put in Recovery disk 1, a complete restore might ask you to insert the next disk, and so on.
So, it is not normal for your system to ask for the same disk over and over again, unless it wasn't able to do what it suppose to do.
If running, Windows 2000 or XP and still are having problems after running the Recovery disks. Try to cold boot the system and press the F8 key, as soon as you turn on the PC, to start the PC in Safe mode. Then click Start>Help and support>Select "Undo changes to your computer with System Restore".

It sounds like it is messed up. I had to do a system recovery (8 disks) a while ago on a desktop and it took quite a while, but the disks always went in sequential order, never from disk 2 back to disk 1, etc.

It all depends on the speed of your pc and how messed up it is.. If it asking for the disk then files are needed from the disk to replace the corrupted or missing ones.... I would just back up what u need and reinstal a new os... IMO windows is like a diper... U can where it as long as u want but a fresh pair is always better....

It usually takes about 45 min to an hour. But it shouldn't repeat!

depends on how much information you are trying to recover and the size of yer harddrive it can take up to 4 to 24 hours
