Well theres lots of results of mother smoking while theyre pregnant. Im glad to hear that only one of your siblings was premature. Theres risks whenever a pregnant mother smokes and some unfortunately choose to take the risks and some quit. You can never tell if your baby will be born with a disability or prematurely but the best way to prevent this is to just not smoke. :)

Mate,
If you keep smoking - and your bubs ends up with a disability, or something else, or something worse! then you will regret not giving up smoking.
It's only going to benefit you. Not just for the sake of a baby, but yourself too. Consider the benefits of quitting - it only takes a short amount of time to get through the withdrawls, and its such a small sacrifice considering another humans health!
On a serious note: It's pretty selfish for you to continue smoking - your forcing your unborn fetus to smoke also - and I should know, My mum had 4 children and smoked through 3 of her pregnancies. The one child she didn't smoke through the pregnancy was born on time, with no health probs at all. Us other 3 all have: chronic asthma. My younger brother was born with undeveloped lungs and one of 2 of us were very premature, underweight and the list goes on.
Don't risk it - or don't have a baby.

Premature birth, low birth weights, in additional to other health risks to the baby - there's also the risk to the pregnancy. My aunt miscarried twice and the doctor told her the third to quit if she wanted any chance of carrying the baby to term. She did and my cousin turned out healthy because of it. It's just much better if you make the decision not to smoke - for both of you.

im not telling you to smoke while you are pregnant, but my doctor advised me not to quit cold turkey because it was worse for the baby to feel that stress.
smoking while pregnant does not cause asthma. Asthma is heriditary.
I slowed down to three or four cigarettes a day and my son was one ounce shy of eight pounds.
People say that it causes low birth weights only because people who smoke generally dont eat enough. The cigarette supresses their appetite. So, the main thing is to eat eat eat if you are smoking.

All mothers need care, respect and lots of loving attention. If they choose to smoke cigarettes then they need all of these things just the same. Its must be stressfull at times carrying a child, moms to be do not need the stress of the preassures of having people to tell them smoking is bad for their child. Smoking is a lifestlye choice and people need to respect that. I wish you many happy days ahead and good luck. Enjoy your pregnancy and enjoy your cigarettes.

They just talk about prematurity and possible asthma. I've smoked with two of my children and they are just as healthy as my third. I did breastfeed all of them though, so that might have offset anything. Don't let people get you scared about it though.

My mother smoked when she was pregnant with me and even though she went full term , I only weighed 5lbs.5ozs at birth. I think you need to give up the smokes in order to give your child a healthy start on life.
