I can' t do better than that!

To me, cupcakes are small. sweet & usually frosted, muffins larger with no frosting, can be savory or sweet & sometimes have fruit )blueberry, apple, etc).

Is A Muffin A Cake

2016-10-20 08:52:01 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

There isn't much difference between muffins and cupcakes, except that when I hear "muffins" I usually think of something a bit more savory (corn muffins, zucchini bread muffins) or that can be baked in either a loaf pan or a muffin tin; while cupcakes are sweeter and are usually baked in a cake pan (sheet, layer, or cups). There is no hard-and-fast rule, though, as muffins can be sweet, too -- blueberry muffins, chocolate chip muffins, lemon poppy seed muffins, etc.

Its all the same texture, only different styles. Personally, my sweet tooth loves them ALL!! Mmmmm...

But,

a cake is something to be shared, with frosting.

a muffin is more breakfast-y, usually without frosting, and sometime incorperates things like nuts and fresh berries, it can also have grains.

a cupcake is a cake, but is for personal consumption only, and includes frosting as a shared cake would.

We should just call everything either breakfast cake, Large cake, or individual cake.. ha ha

I love CAKE!!

I think that Fran Y has it pretty much right on!
Cakes, though usually with frosting, can also have fruit in them, such as peach cake or an apple cake, rhubarb etc.etc., but then we also have the commonly referred to "Coffee Cake'...that kind of 'cake' would be served with breakfast coffee or as a snack with coffee or tea, and doesn't have any frosting. Oh...so many sweets to choose from.
Basically we have the:

1. 'breakfast group' larger coffee-cake type cakes or small individual sized muffins, (usually, no frosting--maybe just a dusting of powder sugar, plain, with grains, or with fruits and or nuts)
2. then we have the 'personal size' cakes which are cupcakes (usually with frosting) then we have
3. 'group or party' cakes, which are the typical ones usually with the frostings.
Maybe this explains it all to you. :>)

They are made with about the same ingredients. A muffin is just a smaller portion. A cupcake is usually smaller than a muffin.(also made with about the same ingredients)

cupcakes are sweeter, softer, fluffier amd most of the time served with frosting of some kind. muffins are more dense not served with any frosting and at times it can be kind of healthy.
