I worked with this guy who was a smoker and amazingly had the most beautiful teeth. He said he brushed with mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda either before or after his regular brushing.

I've talked with my hygentist about this very question and she has told me that no toothpaste really works becuase all whitening products work with contact time and toothpaste just doesn't achieve the contact time needed to really have an effect.

crest with whitening strips in it. It has little crystals in it and it works
