Church is exceedingly boring to people who don't share that Church's system of beliefs. Also, since churches tend to judge others and try to stuff their religion and beliefs down other people's throats, outsiders and "unbelievers" can feel judged and put off very quickly.

1. They are not given a choice, they're made to go to church, you can get supporting evidence from the bible about having free will
2. Not everyone believes in one or even the same Diety, you can get supporting evidence by metioning general knowledge that there are different religions and name a few.
3. (If you take the "there is no God" opinioin), religion is just another form of indoctrination of an ideology. An ideology is a combination of ideas/morals and values that are passed down...not everyone has the same ideologies, so there will be disagreement and resent religion for building confusion.
You can get supporting evidence in the news about the Iran/US conflict, it has very much to do with Extreme-Islam making people convert to their religion...
Something like that...at least you have something to start with.

Well, in the case of a government(theocracy) telling people what religion they have to believe, how to worship, and when and how often they must go to church(or any other religious service), it makes people resent religion because it's not a religion they believe in. They're forced to go to a service and pray to a religion and deity or deities they don't believe in, so they come to hate that they're forced to go.
Which can, but not always, lead to a hatred of that religion. While the religion itself isn't forcing them to worship and "believe", they associate the religion with what their government or leaders are making them do. So not only do they come to hate their leaders for being dictators, but they also come to hate the faith those hated leaders force on them. Hated leader = forced faith to them, so they come to resent it.
Pretty much, it boils down to someone or something making a person or group of people attend church services against their will that can lead to a resentment of that religion.
Outside of that, I don't know how making people go to church could cause resentment. Just hating it on account of being forced to go against their will.
Hope this helps. Good luck! :)

They will put to much emphasis on religious doctrine, and not concentrate on the relationship with God. They will resent going to church because its forced, which will make them men-pleasers, not going after God from their own desires. Its good to enforce this on young children, because that's where the foundation is laid, however; once a person comes of age God grants them free will, when you train them up in the way they should go, they will return to it. You cannot force anyone to do anything, that always causes rebellion.

Maybe because there are many people who just don't want to go to church? Maybe because there are many people who resent having the religious ideas of others forced upon them?

If the religion is being forced upon the person(s), it's not giving them a chance to review the religion and look inside to see if they can form a faith in the information. You need to be able to believe in order to really respect a religion. If you're being made to go, it's really hard to choke down the information given.

shafferboston34,
Look up these things:
Foxe's Book of Martyrs
Spanish Inquisition (don;t waste your time with the Catholic Encyclopedia)
You see, people like freedom, and they should have it. If you are made to go to a kiddie show and you didn't want to, you might be resentful. It wouldn't mean anything to you except a waste of your life.

People hate sacrifice. They will resent it just because they need to sacrifice a couple hours a week to go there. Also, they may resent all the "rules" that one particular church may have.

When you force someone to do anything, they resent it because God created us with a free will and when someone or some thing forces us to go against our will, we just naturally resent it.

Going to church will make u a religios person as well as staying in the garage will make you a car . Things don't work like this , it's hard to believe in God these days since you have Discovey Channel showing you evidence of him not even existed ... but ... keep in mind... if you believe and he doesn't exist , you don't loose anything , but , if don't believe and he exists , you lose everything !!!
