my cat bites a lot... but i think it's just because he's always in a playful mood. he's still very young but i dont really consider him a kitten anymore. i just wanted to know why he bites a lot and if there are any games i could play with him to make him stop biting and scratching all the time.

Cats up to a year or so still like to play and bite. It is up to you to correct them. You can scold them with a command voice, and then reward them when they respond much like you would train your dog. Cats like to climb, and if your cat is inside all the time probably has pent up energy. Get one of those kitty ladder things and hang some play mouse off it, so it dangles. They can play with that a lot. The little plastic balls with bells is good; they like to chase those. If you want to inter-act with your cat get a rubber snake and sit on the floor and move it back and forth making it a game for them, or I taught one of my cats to play hide and seek with me. Start by having them look for you, pet em, take off to the other room, call em, when they come you've hid somewhere. They look and when they find you jump up and take off. Do this enough they get the hang of it. Or you can walk in the room and say here kitty kitty.....and just talk and pretend like you are looking for them, even if you see them act like you don't ......they are wondering why doesn't he/she see me, being curious they will look for you when you walk out not acknowledging their presence. With a little time they catch on and you have a great game of hide and seek. My cat is almost 12 and we still play off and on. Good Luck and have fun, both of you!

He may have been played with roughly as a kitten. When you play rough with a cat, that rewards rowdy behavior. Play with him until he starts to bite and then stop. That will help reinforce good behavior. The best game to play with a rough house cat is the old "thing on a string" game. Get a toy with a feather or some other object on a long string and dangle it. Play with them until they get really tired. This is one of the best cat games going.

He'll probably grow out of the biting. He may be near his adult size, but if he's less than 18 months old, he's still a feline equivalent of a teenager. Give him time.

And if you want a fun game, try these two:

Put a pingpong ball in the bathtub with the cat. It's like kitty racquetball. Hide the ball at night, though, or you'll hear him batting it around all night long.

Get a laser pointer - they love chasing the dot.

My cat will bite me if I am petting him and then I stop. He wants me to pet him more so he bites me. Cats don't have very good logic do they? I tap him on the head(not hard!) and say "no." He still bites me from time to time, but never hard and he never breaks the skin. He is very gentle about it now, whereas before he would chomp down on me. You can try spraying your kitty with a water bottle, or getting a soda can and fill it with pennies and shake it up (cats hate that noise and it will scare them silly)

i have a cat that used to bite. he would bite my hands when playing until i said "no" or hiss at him for biting. when he bites on my hand i keep my hand there in his mouth and say no, hiss and tap his nose. cats don't like to be tapped on the nose i heard from alot of breeders online. to differentiate i let him know the difference between my hands and a puppet i got. first i played with the puppet and he'd be biting then i give him my hand. i repeated my pain and hissed and soon after when i played with hm again he bit less and bit less of the puppet too.
this one other cat over bites when i'm giving him at treat and bites my fingers hard. so when ever i get bitten i say "ouch!" and this cat knows that i'm hurt. he shrivels back and goes away. (so cute) and he comes back and tries again but this time he bites carefully with his teenie weenie lips.
cats are very intelligent if u play with them and know their temperment.
also when u play with him try to get a stick with a furry tail at the end and let him play.anything with a long stick and fur at the end is good it think.and i also recommend a laser pen. (never flash in the eyes)
okkie good luck

Well, one very good toy a cat will love is a feather! It gives them excersise and they have a blast! When your cat does bite you, speak in a loud, clear, comanding voice and say NO. DO NOT speak in a mean voice because the cat will get scared and will be mad at you and start biting you because he's mad. Good Luck with your cat!

A long shoe lace.

A cat's litter mates socialize each other not to bite and scratch. They learn from the other cats it's not fun to get bit and scratched so they learn not to do it.

Give him something else to chew on! Catnip mice and balls are great to let him take out his aggression on someone other than you.

Find other toys that will let you play with him without contact to your skin. If you've ever seen those in the pet store or market, get one, they really are great and they let you give the cat a real workout. Pick one with feathers or leather and go for it!

shine a little lazer beam or a mirror or watch against the light towards the wall and he will chase the wall like crazy he will jump up and down and try to chase the light

buy him some balls and make him run after them and play a little hand soccer with him.

Another game is to make scratchy noises under the sheets or something and he will go chasing it.

crumpled paper- throw it around.

string or some yarn

or my favourite chase him or have him chase u play some tag with your cat

hideandseek-hide somewhere and call out his name see if he can find you...
