I mean with all the ugliness and sin around these days you really do have to get away from everyone for awhile to keep your sanity, don't you agree?

Turn off the TV and news. Go to a neighbor, join a group. I think you are bemoaning this crazy life, but, there are other options...

Old story: a guy was walking down the beach and the beach was littered with starfish. He walked and threw each one that he found back into the sea. A person walked up to him and said, why are you doing this. There are millions of starfish that washed up on the shore. You are wasting your time, you cannot change this, what difference can you make. The other man said, I made a difference to him, as he threw the starfish, back into the sea.

Main point: cannot change it all. Just help one person. You cannot do that in a cave.

Just a thought!

Sure, so long as it's for a while.

Go camping, go to your backyard, lock yourself in your room, enjoy the quiet for a bit, and then get back into society because we need human contact and love too.

Please understand that when you are clarifying which is right or wrong for yourself . It is wrong. The light is light. The water is running. You know it, that is you. The piece of mind came up, you know it and did not follow, that is you. To follow the piece mind came up and consider it is good/bad to you and how it come and how it go. It is wrong. You are following the tide. You are shrunking.

We may assume that, and in many ways I think you are right. But yet, wrong. What matter us us and our own relationshi with God. And, no the crazy, nasty world cant make us go crazy. It only will if we try to fix things ourselves, instead of staying in the right place with God. But, we as humans do need to rest in the Lord, We can do it around others sometimes, and sometimes, we do need to go to our place of solitude and be alone with God. BUt, we dont have to be hermits to do that. It can just be your green house, or your bedroom, one corner of your living room, whereever you choose to be YOUR place with God, where you focus on Him and not the problems of this world or any you are experiencing. Focus on God and the solution, or the problem Only focus on God brings solutin to the problem If we remember that, we stay sane in this crazy world, wheteher we are alone in the jungle or at home in a full house. But, learning that we do all need time for ourselves, just us and God is very important. I didnt learn this for years, and I took on all the problems of the world and ended up very depressed. Not anymore. It was awesome to find out I am to live as God says, to tell people about Him, and leave all the convicting to Him. That alne brought peace. It can be a reach sometimes when you see so much going on around you, but we must. God tells us to do this and it works. Amen.
Back to the hermit thing. There are still many hermits today, living apart from the world, and some know God and some dont, just like in the past. They wont truly be happy if they dont have the Lord, no matter being alone or not. And, many have run from the world to avoid having to deal with feelings, conflict, etc? We cant run from life, it follows us no matter where we go or how quiet it is. Even the ones that know God and are hermits, they arent doing what God says, to give the gospel to the world. so thats not obedience, and we are called to obey all of Gods word, not just the parts we like.
So, becoming a true hermit is never the answer. BUt, we do have to learn to get away and into solitude with just God, be it in a little corner of our home, the beach, the car, a river, doesnt matter where. Just learn to get only with God and pray, and He will protect you and guide you thru all the things of this very insane world, that lives apart from God. God tells us it will get worse just before Jesus comes. Look around us. Jesus is coming soon, and God showed me this in vision. Because I do my best to obey, GOd is blessing me and giving me prophecy, which I am to tell to others, But it isnt my job to convict them, only to tell them and leave the rest to almighty God, who knows just what to do. He wont use force, nor are we to. Many will come in last minute, but many will always reject God. He knows already who they are and how to proceed. We dont, Its our job to love them, forgive them, and to pray, and wittness as we can, and leave the rest to God. God bless you for your question. Anytime we are thinking things thru, GOd will send answers. Thanks for asking.

I am definitely one that could easily retreat to a cave. I do it a lot already, in my home or even my mind.

It is better to face the world and learn from it, then to hide and learn nothing.
