am writing a research paper for criminal justice class and need info about religious beliefs and the crimes/offenses committed motivated by it. any stats would be greatly appreciated or websites to investigate regarding this. thanks

Well there are many that could be listed because there are so many kinds of religons and so many different religous views that may say an activity is required of their faith but against the laws of mankind.

Here are a few examples:

1. Suicide Bombing is a crime, but it is a religious act carried out according to the faith of some religions.

2. Satanic rituals carried out on human sacrifices or animal sacrifices would be against the laws of man, but supported by a satanic kind of faith.

3. There are religions that allow for poligamy, when there are laws against it.

4. There may be governments that specifically make laws against certain religions and their activities so that they will be committing crimes, it happens all of the time.

Pretty much any crime you can think of has been committed for a religious reason at one time or another. Look into abortion clinic bombings and the strife in Ireland a few years ago for some specific examples.
