If he if failing his PRT he will NOT be getting severence pay. )I'm assuming this is Physical Training? I'm in the AF but it's the same) Severence pay is only paid when the separation is done in order to benefit the Navy at the Navy's request. Failing means that your husband is not fulfilling his duties.
Most likely he will get an administrative discharge which is not negative. Without knowing how far along in the process you are, it's hard to say how long but probably 30-60 days.
Another thing, it is very rare to discharge someone over that. Typically they will put you on a VERY STRICT supervised exercise program first. If you can't trust him, are you sure this is the reason for the discharge??

well u all are wrong if u check out the new revised copy of the secnav instruction 1900.7G is states that any person who has been in the navy for more then 6yrs and less then 20yr is entitled to half severence pay for prt failures.. So yes your husband will be getting money.. how much it depends on exactly how long he has been in and what his base pay is, and if he is on an reelistment and owes money for that reenlistment.. if he wants to know here is the formula that he can use to figure it out.. .05xyrmo he has been inx12xbase payx25% that will give u an estiment on how much..

How the heck could he fail the Navy PRT. I passed the run 2 days after coming off crutches for God's sake. I know when they had the drawdown they gave people money, lately as far as I know if you fail the PRT they just send you home. Why not check with personnel.

i expert in sep, the only way u husband can get several pay is by approval of the doctor in the medical usually if he has a cruicial health problem which can affect heath or prt. but i doubt by the question is in such case. PRT failure can lose u honorale discharge u will get admin sep or general sep under horable is bad cause u can lose the most imporat veterans beneit such as the GI bill !, cross branch to army is case by case is really up to u husband command if they even approve it.

ADMIN SEP, probably no payout at all. The instruction has been out for a year now, he had no earthly excuse to not be able to pass a PFA/PRT. and if he did, it would have been documented by Medical.
Seps can happen as fast as a week. Just depends on how fast the Chain of Command moves.

no serverence pay... why didn't he try blue to green? the navy is downsizing like crazy while the army is building up and doesn't care about PT (i should know, we did it and now some of the guys in my husband's unit don't meet requirements and no one is saying anything to them). also you get to carry over your military time, so it's a win-win for your husband. AND - an NCO should have taken him to the nutritionist and had him put on a "fat boy" program, if that was never done then that NCO's superior should be notified (but it won't help your husband now).
is his contract up? if they are not booting him out, then it's when his contract is up - with the way the navy is now, though i'd say if they are talking about booting him out as soon as all the paperwork is done. talk to your FRG or POC on who exactly to contact to find out what needs to be done.

Since he is getting discharged, then NO he will not get any type of severence pay.
I would have to say that if he already has his seperation papers then within 30 days. If not you will have to wait until he recieves them to find out, they will generally have a time frame to go with them.
