When i say best champions i don't mean the so called pound for pound best, i mean the guys who regularly defend there title and will fight anywhere not just in there backyards, and don't pick and choose there opponents.

This is an excellent question with a dissappointing answer. There are presently no "champions" who meet your criteria, and your criteria is actually what the definition of a champion should be. Heavyweight division saddens me. No americans with a belt. No belt unification. No solid champions. Middleweights Pick and choose there opponents and seem primarily interested in the big pay per view paycheck. Welterweights Have no true champions, however, I am intrigued by Ricky hatton and am curious to see what becomes of his record and career. Jr. welterweights and flyweights seem to change every week and I have a hard time keeping up with them all. Best champions ?- There are none!!

Baz ~
There are no Champions that defend their titles regularly anymore, you're (we) lucky if they fight twice a year. The moneys become the most important thing for a lot of these guys, and they all pick their opponents now, just look at who Floyd Mayweather is fighting Saturday night. You and I should get together and start our own organization, you seem to have an idea of how things should be.

Jermain Taylor is unquestionably the best champion so far by those standards.

He He beat Bernard Hopkins for the Middleweight Championship on 7/16/05. He defended it against Hopkins again 12/3/05. Now maybe a rematch was in the contract or not, but most fighters would not have wanted to face Hopkins again, expecially after how close the first fight was.

Then, on 6/17/06, Taylor chose to defend the title against the guy that NOBODY wants to fight, and that is Winky Wright! You have to give Taylor all the credit in the world for fighting Winky. He didn't have to. He could have ducked him. That fight was a draw.

Now, on 12/9/06 he will defend his title against Kasim Ouma, who is one of my favorites. Ouma is good! Ya gotta give Taylor credit for defending his title against good fighters.

Sure, he's probably only going to defend it a couple times a year but he's doing it against top contenders.

I think Ryan Kessler is fighting anyone in the category right now. He destroy the overrated Beyer, will do the same with Calzaghe..... there is no one that can beat him in the super-mid right now.

I am a Lucian Bute fan, but he is not even close of Kessler.
