I know I am. Usually everyone who I meet everyday is a Christian, but so many Atheists are on Yahoo! Answers.

I don't want this to sound rude, but that can have a great deal to do with where you live. If you live in the bible belt of the US or other areas with many Christian people you are more likely to meet mostly christians. A large amount of people identify nowadays as Atheists instead of some other title because it is easier for them and requires less explanation to the average person than the title Agnostic or something of that sort would. I am personally Agnostic but I generally tell people I am an Atheist because more people are familiar with that term and that at least tells them that I am not religiously inclined. Hope this helped clear things up a little.

of the world's population,

33%, Christian
21%, Islam
16%, Nonreligious
14%, Hindu
6%, Primal-indigenous
6%, Trad. Chinese
6%, Buddhism
etc.

Interestingly enough, Judaism comes in 12th at 14 million people, or .22% of the world's population.

One explanation for the skewings of atheists on Yahoo Answers is since the distribution of Atheists in the world is highly favored in developed countries, where computers and internet are more accessible.

No, once you think about how atheists generally do not have a local community of fellow atheists to relate to, so the internet has played a big part in allowing atheists to communicate with one another. As for not meeting many atheists in real life, sometimes it's a simple matter of them not wanting to advertise their beliefs like many Christians do, either as a matter of principle or to avoid conflict with some theists who would take issue with those beliefs.

Not shocked at all. Not everyone is/should be a Christian. And why should they have to be be? Last time I checked we are given the free will to make our own choices about spirituality or non-spirituality. As far as I know, no particular religion has cornered the market on God although some of the right-wingers/fundamentalists think so.

Greetings,
No I am not scince there are so many lost out there in the dark looking for the light. I deal with more out in the city than found here. The only reason that they are in this site (though they wouldn't admit it)is that they know that they are missing something or that they are lacking something and are searching for an answer as to what it might be that they are not getting. It is sad but at least there is hope in the fact that they are looking.

In the UK virtually every person you would meet would be an atheist, so I'm shocked at the number of Christian conservatives on here. I never encounter these fruitcakes in everyday life which is why I have problems dealing with their nutty agenda.

Actually I was surprised when I found out how many Americans claim to be Christian. Not that I don't believe some of them, but others sure don't act like it, and I come from a country with a low rate of religious beliefs so I figured that was the norm.

Atheists are a small percentage of the global population, so perhaps it is a bit odd there would be so many on this particular corner of the web. However I am not shocked. I think its nice that a minority viewpoint has a voice in this forum.

it's just because you associate with different people in your daily life than you do on a computer. Also it depends where you live. Where I live, there are only a few Christians, and I've met only 1 born again Christian in the last 5 years (that I know of).

Sometimes yes. But the ratio is always changeing. A couple of days ago, all of the answers to my question were from christians who hate me for my atheistic views. But today is nice. :)
