new stuyle all metal bunk beds are great, some have a full on the bottom and a twin size on top and arent really expensive. my son 10 has a bunk bed with a futon on the botom and a bed on top. he loves having a couch in his room. for my daughter, i built her a loft bed from plans i bought online. its like a bunk bed with no bottom bunk.
as for safety, my brother and i grew up with bunk beds. he was older so he had the top, but he never fell out. the main thing is they wont tip over unless serious effort is put by an adult. a bunk bed is heavy. you just have to judge how rambunctous your kids are. if you haveto tell them to quit jumping off the house with a running chainsaw. a bunkbed might not be for your kids. and as far as rolling out in their sleep, if they dont do it now, they wont roll out of a bunk bed.
my worst experiece with a bunk bed is in the army. a grown man has to be careful getting up so to not hit his head on the bunk above! that and its kinda hard for a 35 year old man to jump up into the top bunk.... ah barracks life....

Typically I have heard that the rule of thumb for bunk beds is that children under 5 should not use them. If they are over 5....then weigh your options! There is a guardrail at the top so if the child is able to climb up and down well without assistance they should be fine.

Depends on how old the kids are. I would also talk with the sears representative you are buying them from. Generally bunk beds are safe but I reccomend buying a rail guard for the top bunk as well as something to prevent slipping on the ladder to get to the top bunk. As well as perhaps talking to your kids about using the beds safely such as the maximum weight for the top bunk, jumping on the beds, etc.

My daughters 6 and 3 share a bunkbed. They have done this for 6 months and it is great.None of them have fallen off the bed or got hurt or anything, course mine aren't really rambunctious and they have rules lol like no jumping on the bed ....anyway, My 6 yr old sleeps on the top ....the youngest has never come close to falling off the bed either! How old are your kids?

Of course someone has a bad experience! We've all had bad experiences weather it be with a bike a playground, walking or just sitting. You just have to teach your kids the right and wrong way of using the bed. If they don't, just like my child they will fall get a bump more than likely on their head but it will teach them they can't climb like they were. Most people learn from their mistakes. Just teach them that's all we can do as parents is teach our kids the right and wrong way.

I'm sure there have been kids who have fallen off and gotten hurt but how many kids have tripped and bumped their head on something?? I think you'll be fine with them. I would suggest to not use them for small children, maybe 5 or older.
Good choice too. I think the one you are debating looks very nice.

I think so, I have always had them for my boys. Just make sure they have a railing. Always put the older one on top, until the younger one is at least 5-6 years old.

My 6 and 10 year old have been sleeping in bunks for 3 years now. My 10 year old is about 100 lbs and he sleeps on the top. We have had no problems. If purchased at a good store their are many safety standards. I've never heard of bunk beds falling down. Good luck.
