I am getting married soon and I am not sure if you are supposed to tip them. Any ideas?

You don't need to tip the DJ, you're paying him/her enough. However, you should feed him/her at the reception.

If you are impressed with your DJ, a tip is quite standard. The tip woudl usually be the responsibility of the person who is paying for the DJ services as well and is usually 10-15%. And yes, usually you offer them a plate of food as well if there is a meal.

One of my sisters is a part time DJ, and says that most weddings she is tipped - once she even recieved a tip bigger then the whole bill, lol. Anyway - she works for a local company and is paid hourly, and while the pay is not bad, it is only a fraction of what couple is paying the company so the tips are nice.

Not in my opinion... his tip is the amount that you are paying him to do your reception. Now depending on whether or not he went above and beyond the call of duty would be a judgement call for that day. I don't tip the waiter before I recieve the service. Depending on the level of service, the waiter receives the tip. So just think of it like that. Best of you luck to ya and Congratulations! Married life is the bomb.

First, I don't believe you should be obligated to tip anyone unless you feel they did a good job. So, if you feel they did a poor job, don't tip them. If they did a GREAT job, tip them more. I hate this feeling that you must tip everyone, even if they don't deserve it.

Second, is the DJ self employed/independent or does he work for a company (party planner, rental service, etc). If he works for himself, he gets all of the money you are paying him, and so unless he does a GREAT job, I would not tip him. If he works for a company, i.e. you are paying a company who is them paying him, I would tip him (assuming he did a good job).

I agree with Amy B. You don't need to tip your DJ but you should feed him and give him free drinks. Also ask for some extra business cards so that you may recommend him to your friends and family.

If he is just playing for a certain amount of time and the songs are already picked...then you should agree on a price. But...if he is going to do requests..then yes, either let him set out a tip jar or give him a tip afterwards.
Congratulations !!!!!!

Never tip anyone unless they go above and beyond the call of duty for you.
