I know how to place the cue ball how do i make the cue work?

if you are talking about yahoo pool, go click on the cue stick to aim for position, then set your power bar ready, click on the cue and drag it, let go.. and see the ball rip apart ! cheers !

If you're right handed:
A common way of holding the pool cue is to press your thumb and index finger together with your thumb curled back, and the joint tucked slightly beneath your index finger. Use this groove to place the cue in. Grip the cue with your right hand and swing your forearm back and forth, without moving your elbow. This is the basic stroke form. Try to practice so that your cue stays straight and doesn't tilt from side to side when you hit.
Try to position your hands so that when your cue comes into contact with the ball, your forearm is at a 90 degree angle to the back of your arm. Aim for the center of the cue ball.

well u take the stick and stroke it in your hand an then push it forward untill it makes contact with the ball.
